ARD Degeto, X Filme, and Beta Film have commissioned the development of the fifth season of the international series “Babylon Berlin." The fourth season will be broadcast on ARD this fall.
The 40-hour series, sold by Beta to more than 140 territories, has garnered success all over the world with more than 55 million digital views on Germany’s ARD mediathek alone. "Babylon Berlin" Multi-awarded international hit series set in Berlin as a hotbed of crime and politics, sex and drugs, emancipation and extremism.
In "Babylon Berlin," the young detective Gereon Rath finds himself caught up in dark conspiracies, while Charlotte, a bright young woman struggling to improve her family’s miserable living conditions, is fighting for recognition in the male-dominated police department. Directed by Tom Tykwer, Achim von Borries and Henk Handloegten, the series is said to have set a new standard for story telling made in Europe.
