International distributor Beta Film has acquired global rights to the French dramedy "A Lovely Mess – Rob the Rich", a timely class satire produced by Redstone for France Télévisions. The series follows a middle-class couple striving to climb the social ladder while secretly moonlighting as burglars. Combining family comedy, adventure, and social critique, the series joins Beta’s expansive Mipcom 2025 slate, which features over 450 hours of premium content spanning genres and territories.
"A Lovely Mess – Rob the Rich" is one of several new titles Beta is bringing to market, highlighting its commitment to high-end, character-driven storytelling. Leading the slate is "Mozart Mozart", a six-part drama from Story House and ARD, which reimagines the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart through the eyes of his equally talented but historically overlooked sister, Maria Anna. Set against a backdrop of opulence, music, and personal sacrifice, the series sees Maria Anna posing as her brother to rescue their family from disgrace and herself from an arranged marriage. Beta Film and Bavaria Media are handling international sales.
Another standout is the Canadian dramedy "Empathy" (10x1h), from Trio Orange, written and directed by Florence Longpré. Following its Audience Award win at Series Mania 2025 and top performance on Crave during its launch week, the series offers an offbeat yet poignant look at the lives of patients and staff inside a secure psychiatric facility. Longpré, the multi-award-winning creator behind "Audrey’s Back", continues her streak of bold, emotionally resonant storytelling.
Spanish-language drama also features prominently with "Velvet New York – The New Empire", a reboot of the internationally acclaimed "Velvet" franchise, now set in contemporary Manhattan. Produced by Telemundo Studios, the 96-episode series has already delivered 1.29 million viewers and outperformed the channel’s average. The original "Velvet", sold by Beta to over 140 territories, remains one of the company’s most successful scripted properties, spawning spin-offs like "The Velvet Collection".
British drama is represented by the Channel 4 hit "The Couple Next Door – Deadly Attraction" (6x1h), a suburban thriller from Eagle Eye starring Sam Palladio, Annabel Scholey, Aggy Adams, and Sendhil Ramamurthy. Its predecessor, "The Couple Next Door", drew an average of 2.6 million viewers across its six episodes and accumulated over 1 million streams in its first week, becoming the most-watched show on Channel 4 at the time.
Adding literary prestige to the slate is "The Great Chimera" (6x1h), an adaptation of the iconic Greek novel by M. Karagatsis. Produced by Foss Productions, the series follows Marina, a young Italian woman portrayed by Fotinì Peluso, as she immerses herself in Greek island life after falling in love with shipowner Yannis, played by Andreas Konstantinou. As Marina seeks reinvention, her inner turmoil mounts, leading to a tragic journey shaped by cultural clash and personal reckoning.
With a Mipcom offering rich in diversity, scale, and international appeal, Beta Film underscores its position as a leading global distributor of ambitious, market-ready drama. The company’s strategy reflects strong demand for premium European content across both traditional and streaming platforms.
