Endeavor Content has acquired international rights for a new series from TV4 and C More, “The Congregation,” which explores the notorious real life Swedish cult murder in Knutby that shook the nation in 2004. The six-episode series will be helmed by director Goran Kapetanović and based on Jonas Bonnier’s fictionalized retelling “Knutby: The Day of the Lord”.

The series, which stars Alba August and Aliette Opheim, is developed by TV4, C More and B-Reel, and the first episodes are scheduled to shoot this summer in Sweden. Endeavor Content will represent “The Congregation” for worldwide sales excluding the Nordic and Baltic regions.

“I want to tell a story of vulnerability, power structures and radicalization, and how the inherent human need for love and belonging can be used against an individual. My ambition is to create a window to the reality and misery that was prevalent in the Knutby community during that time, to make the unfathomable more understandable and hopefully convey something of relevance to the time we live in today,”  Goran Kapetanović said.

“We are incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to deliver such a devastating, yet important, story with this level of creatives and actors attached to the project. Goran is one of the most inspiring and talented storytellers out there and I am convinced he’ll do this material justice,”  added Josefine Tengblad, Head of Drama at TV4 and C More.

Lastly, Liz Tang, Director of Content at Endeavor Content, commented: “We are thrilled to bring Endeavor Content’s first Nordic noir to audiences globally, and to be working with the incredible creative teams at B-Reel and TV4. ‘The Congregation’ is set to be a gripping retelling of true events that made worldwide headlines, and it is exactly the kind of local drama we are seeking as we continue to build our highly curated, premium non-English language content offering”.
