Viaplay Content Distribution has secured international rights to the financial crime drama "Golden Boys" (4x44’), produced by FLX for TV4. The series, inspired by real events, offers a sharply written, high-stakes narrative set against a backdrop of luxury, ambition, and deception, spanning St. Tropez, London, Geneva, and Stockholm. As the global appetite for premium European drama continues to rise, "Golden Boys" is positioned as a standout title in Viaplay’s growing slate of export-ready content.
Vanda Rapti, EVP Viaplay Select & Content Distribution, described the project as a perfect match for Viaplay’s brand of high-end drama: “At Viaplay, we love true stories so unbelievable they could be mistaken for fiction, and Golden Boys is a prime example. It’s a fast-paced, high-stakes drama with all the hallmarks of a global hit: real-life intrigue, compelling characters, and a world of wealth, ambition and betrayal. We’re proud to add it to our lineup of premium, export-ready series, and to bring this captivating story to buyers and audiences worldwide through our boutique distribution arm, SVOD channels in markets including the US, UK, and Canada, and our Viaplay Select branded content offering.”
Erik Hultkvist, Head of Programs Drama at FLX and one of the series’ writers, emphasized the show’s bold tone and emotional resonance: “With Golden Boys, we set out to tell a story that’s as audacious as the heist itself, blending dark humour, sharp character work, and the intoxicating allure of fast money. It’s a stylish, provocative drama with real edge, and we’re thrilled to partner with Viaplay Content Distribution to share it with global audiences.”
"Golden Boys" follows the meteoric rise and dramatic fall of two audacious cousins—Joachim Posener and Thomas Jisander—who conspire to take over a Swedish investment firm with the help of a cash-strapped British aristocrat. Their goal: to build an empire and gain social respect at any cost. But when a journalist begins to unravel their web of fraud, their glamorous empire starts to collapse, revealing the real price of ambition and betrayal.
The four-part series is helmed by acclaimed director Ivica Zubak ("A Hustler’s Diary", "Måste Gitt") and co-written by Erik Hultkvist ("Blinded", "The Dark Heart"), Per Gavatin ("Swedish Dicks"), and Tapio Leopold ("Trouble"). The cast includes Adam Lundgren ("The Arctic Convoy", "The Restaurant"), Erik Svedberg-Zelman ("The Helicopter Heist", "Dusseldorf, Skåne"), and Viktor Björkberg ("Baba Yoga", "Wizard of Oz"). Production was led by Anna Carlsten ("Trouble", "Together 99", "The Dark Heart", "The Square") with Julia Lennartson as executive producer, in co-production with Film i Väst.
As scripted content rooted in real-world financial scandals continues to drive global demand, "Golden Boys" adds a sophisticated and provocative edge to the international drama market, offering broadcasters and streamers a premium, character-driven series with broad audience appeal.
