Fremantle confirmed its deal with Atresmedia Televisión, through which Atresmedia will acquire the rights to the word-guessing gameshow "Password."  The new adaptation of the format will be produced locally by Fremantle Spain.  The format will form part of Fremantle’s entertainment slate at this year’s Mipcom event.

“We’ve seen how well our star-studded and modern revival of Password has resonated in the US, so we cannot wait to see how the Spanish adaptation will perform," Rob Clark, Director, Global Entertainment at Fremantle said."This is a timeless, translatable format and Password’s long-running success around the world is testament to that. Atresmedia Televisión has a strong portfolio of successful formats in the Spanish market so Password will be a great addition to their catalogue.”

"Password's" launch in Spain follows a successful run in the US by NBC. The title starring Jimmy Fallon was hosted by Keke Palmer, featuring a lineup of celebrity guests including: Yvette Nicole Brown, Tony Hale, Jon Hamm, Chelsea Handler, Heidi Klum, Joel McHale, Chrissy Metz, Martin Short, J.B. Smoove and Meghan Trainor. The refreshed series launched as the most-watched new unscripted series premiere of the summer across the US broadcast networks ahead of five other titles.

In "Password,"  word association is the name of the game as celebrities team up with contestants, giving just one single word clue to help them guess each pre-defined password and win a huge cash prize. Easy to follow, interactive, with a very broad appeal, it’s not just what you say, it’s how you say it. Players use humour, nuance and with the audience in on the password, edge-of-your seat spectator reaction to guess the passwords and unlock the final big money prize.

“Since I joined Fremantle in 2014, witnessing the return of Password on Spanish television has always been one of our team’s goals," Nathalie Garcia, CEO at Fremantle Spain said. "A happy outcome is worth waiting for. With Atresmedia TV, this team’s wish has now come true. We are confident that, as has happened before, this fantastic game show will generate iconic moments that will become part of our television history. Password has had an excellent international run and the new adaptation of the game show, with Jimmy Fallon as a powerful valued asset, has called the world’s attention to the show once more.”
