All seven series of the classic police drama have been remastered in stunning HD and UHD and will be available exclusively on Sky and NOW in the UK and Ireland from 14 February 2025. The news follows a major deal brokered by Jamie Lynn, EVP Co-Production & Distribution, EMEA for Fremantle, and Facundo Bailez for Sky. "Homicide: Life on the Street" was created by Paul Attanasio and executively produced by Tom Fontana, Barry Levinson, Harry Bromwell, and Jim Finnerty. Jamie Lynn, EVP Co-Production & Distribution, EMEA, International, said: “'Homicide: Life on the Street' was the first drama of its kind when it launched, and it truly set the template for the scripted television revolution that followed. There’s been endless anticipation from fans who can’t wait to have it back on British screens, so we’re excited to be working with our incredible partners at Sky, giving both loyal and new audiences a chance to experience this remastered version not only on linear but on streaming for the first time.”
Jamie Morris, Executive Director Content Strategy and Performance for Sky, added: “We’re delighted that this iconic series is coming to the UK and Ireland and cannot wait for our customers to experience all seven series. Homicide: Life on the Street set the bar for some of the greatest series of all time, many of which you can watch on Sky and NOW alongside this legendary drama, which has been lovingly restored.”
A three-time Peabody Award winner, four-time Emmy Award winner, and one of the most acclaimed police dramas in television history, "Homicide: Life on the Street" revolutionized the TV genre when it launched in 1993, running for 122 episodes. It is seen by many as the catalyst for other classic series such as "The Sopranos" and, ultimately, "The Wire." The series garnered huge praise from the media, with IGN referring to it as “one of the most gripping TV shows of the last 20 years” while Vulture said it was “arguably the best cop show of all time”. The series became a global hit, with Fremantle placing the original in over 167 territories worldwide. "Homicide: Life on the Street" delivers an unvarnished look at the rigorous detective work of a homicide division in Baltimore. Created by Paul Attanasio and based on the book "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets" by David Simon, creator of "The Wire," the highly influential classic features an outstanding ensemble cast with award-winning talent, including the late Andre Braughner (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, She Said), Richard Belzer (Law & Order, Scarface), and Academy Award winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Prisoners).
It also includes a selection of iconic guest stars, including Chris Rock, Robin Williams, Paul Giamatti, Edie Falco, Jake Gyllenhaal, Luis Guzmán, Marcia Gay Harden, Steve Buscemi, and Vincent D’Onofrio. The timeless program was revamped and launched in the U.S. on NBCUniversal’s Peacock in August 2024 to rave reviews.
