Latin Quarter acquires Argentine Drama "El Agronomo" ahead of its Premiere at BAFICI

Netherlands-based Latin Quarter has added Argentine drama "El Agrónomo" ("The Agronomist") to its independent cinema offer. Directed by Martín Turnes and produced by Fernando Romanazzo, the film will have its world premiere at the Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema (BAFICI) on April 22nd, offering audiences along the story a thought-provoking exploration of agriculture, family dynamics, and environmental impact.

Set in Marcos Paz, Argentina, the film follows the story of Gastón, an agronomist who upends his life by moving his family to a rural farming community. Amidst the challenges of resurrecting failing crops, Gastón must navigate opposition from locals and loved ones while contending with the consequences of widespread pesticide use in agriculture, highlighting environmental concerns and human risks. "El Agrónomo" portrays the fragile livelihoods of farming communities and the urgent need for sustainable practices.

This acquisition underscores the company's dedication to promoting independent cinema from Latin America and its diaspora to global audiences. The journey to discovering "El Agrónomo" began through Latin Quarter's yearly film distribution mentoring collaboration at Bolivia Lab, directed by Viviana Saavedra. Following this fortunate initial encounter, the interest was reaffirmed at SAPCINE, an international Producers and Film Project Hall headed by Alina Hleap in Colombia. Both platforms provided Latin Quarter with opportunities to recognize the potential of "El Agrónomo" and its relevance to international audiences.
