Legendary's "Vanda" drama picked up by Canal+, Lionsgate+, and SBS

The crime heist drama series will become available on POLAR+ in France, by Lionsgate+ in Brazil and by Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) in Australia. It is also available in Portugal via the SVOD platform OPTO/SIC where it begin airing in March 2022.

Legendary Entertainment’s television division confirmed that crime heist drama series, "Vanda" has been picked up for broadcast by Canal+ Group for its channel POLAR+ in France, by Lionsgate+ in Brazil and by Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) in Australia. “We are thrilled to have found such fitting homes for Vanda all over the world,” said Sam Kozhaya of Legendary. “This series and the structure of its distribution demonstrates the success of our local language productions and our growing international slate.”

"Vanda" was produced by Legendary in partnership with leading independent producer SPi and Spain’s La Panda Productions. The series is also available in Portugal via the SVOD platform OPTO/SIC where it begin airing in March 2022. The title was created by Patrícia Müller and written by Müller and Carmen Jimenez, executive produced by José Amaral, Elisa Lleras, Pablo Gómez-Castro and Anne Thomopoulos and directed by Simão Cayatte with Bartosz Swiniarsky serving as director of photography and the special collaboration of Spanish director Elia Urquiza.

Gabriela Barros will act as the protagonist and work alongside artists, such as João Baptista, Pedro Casablanc, Raúl Prieto, and Joana de Verona completing the cast. The series of eight episodes, each about an hour long, was supported by the Portuguese Tourism and Film Fund and is a Spanish co-production.

Based on the true story of a hair stylist in Lisbon, who, in the middle of the 2008 financial crisis, after finding herself alone, broke, and with two children to raise - embarks on a string of bank heists using a blonde wig and a toy gun. When Vanda was finally caught, she was sentenced to seven years in prison and had stolen a grand total of €17,000.
