Altitude and Lightbox have announced a partnership to work on the landmark cinema-release documentary, "Diana."“Having worked closely with Lightbox previously we are acutely aware of the care, responsibility, and attention with which they approach their filmmaking and alongside Ed’s consideration for her story we look forward to ‘Diana’ as a compelling and honest film that will be embraced by audiences in the UK and worldwide," Lia Devlin, Director of Distribution at Altitude said.

“Diana” is the first theatrical release documentary ever to be made about the Princess and is slated to open in cinemas worldwide in the summer of 2022 to mark the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death. After its worldwide theatrical release, the film - produced in association with HBO and Sky will have its television premiere on HBO and stream on HBOMax in the US; and on Sky Documentaries in the UK. The Director for the Lightbox production is Ed Perkins, with Simon Chinn and Jonathan Chinn for Lightbox serving as producers, and Jinx Godfrey as editor.

Altitude will be responsible for handling global sales and will be releasing the film theatrically in the UK and Ireland. It has already pre-sold the film to theatrical buyers in multiple territories, including Benelux, Germany and Austria by Studio Hamburg Enterprises/NDR/BR/RBB, Italy by I Wonder Pictures, Portugal by NOS Lusomundo Audiovisuais, Switzerland by Ascot Elite, Czech Republic by AQS, Japan by Tohokushinsha, Australia & New Zealand by Madman, the Middle East by Phars and Turkey by Filmarti.

“Diana” will showcase the story through the use of thousands of hours of news reports, previously unseen footage, and photographs.“The life and death of Princess Diana remain one of the defining stories of our times,” Director Ed Perkins said. “Though we are telling a story which has been told and re-told many times, my aim is to reframe it for a modern audience and make it feel as fresh and relevant as it ever has.”

“Diana”  is not simply the story of the life of a princess and the crisis in the British monarchy which was sparked by her death, and examines wider society at the time to illuminate the profound impact Diana had on ordinary people in Britain and across the world. Drawing out wider themes of celebrity culture, media intrusion, and our insatiable appetite for voyeurism and the private lives of others, “Diana” will tell a story which is just as relevant today as it ever was. “The mythology surrounding Princess Diana remains as potent as ever, but we want to paint as honest a portrait as we can of a complex woman who had a powerful influence not just on the British monarchy but on wider society,” Simon Chinn and Jonathan Chinn, co-Founders of Lightbox said.
