MBC GROUP ACQUIRES ZDF ENTERPRISES’ “BRON/BROEN” AND “THE CRIMSON RIVERS”

MBC Group announced its decision to acquire rights to all seasons of the drama series, “Bro/Broen,” also known as “The Bridge,” and “The Crimson Rivers” for its Middle Eastern OTT platform from ZDF Enterprises.  Director of Drama at ZDF Enterprises, Yuliya Fischer was in charge of brokering the deal.

Some of the global sales MBC has engaged in have been with the BBC, Amazon, Antena TV, Arrow Films, AXN Spain, Bontonfilm, Canal+,  Czech TV, DirecTV, Estonia Public Broadcasting, Fox Cable Network, Fox International, Globosat, Google, Hotvision, HRT, Hulu, Ivi.ru, Joyn, LTV, MHz Networks, Netflix, PopTV, RSI, RTS, SBS, Sky Italy and Germany, Studiocanal, Telekom Germany, TFC, TG4, TRT, among numerous others. The media company has over 20 TV channels, two FM radio stations, and SVOD online platforms.  

“Bron/Broen” is produced by Filmlance International and Nimbus Film Produktion in co-production with ZDF Enterprises. The 38-hour series stars Sofia Helin and Kim Bodnia. Several remakes have been made, such as “The Bridge” in the US and Mexico, “The Tunnel” in the UK and France. The series follows a bi-national team of inspectors in charge of solving crimes. 

“The Crimson Rivers” has been sold to Netflix, NBC Universal, Asmik Ace, Bontonfilm, Canal+ France and Poland, Edel, FTV Prima, GSN, Ivi.ru, LNK TV, Okko, PTS, RTS, SBS, Showjet, Sonia Drago, Radio Canada, Top Media Distribution, TV3 Russia and several other platforms. The thriller was produced by Storia Television in co-production with Maze Pictures for France Télévisions and ZDF in cooperation with ZDF Enterprises and stars Olivier Marchal, Erika Sainte, Ken Duken, Nora Waldstätten, to name a few. 

The 16 50-minute episodes of “The Crimson Rivers” takes place in a world of gruesome crimes and rituals based on a novel that carries the same. Its author Jean-Christophe Grangé also created the film’s feature adaptation.
