Nine’s Streaming and Broadcast division has announced its new strategic direction as part of its transformation into a dedicated function, unveiling a refreshed leadership team and revised operational approach. The initiative, revealed by Amanda Laing, Nine’s Managing Director of Streaming and Broadcast, aims to boost growth and revenue while accelerating priority projects within the broader Nine2028 transformation strategy. This development follows January’s announcement of a new Group Operating Model and the establishment of the Streaming and Broadcast division.
A significant part of the change involves the introduction of new executive roles with expanded oversight across Channel 9, 9Now, and Stan—marking the first time these platforms have been unified under shared leadership. Michael Healy has been appointed Executive Director – Entertainment, drawing on four decades of experience producing local content that resonates with Australian audiences. His deep understanding of audience preferences and talent relationships will be instrumental across both free-to-air and subscription products.
Cailah Scobie will serve as Executive Director – Entertainment Content Acquisitions, bringing with her a strong background across both free and paid media platforms, along with proven expertise in negotiation and content acquisition that drives advertising and subscription revenue.
Fiona Dear continues as Executive Director – News & Current Affairs, where she will maintain oversight of storytelling across all brands and lead the ongoing transformation of "9News."
Sport remains central to Nine’s identity and is the company’s single largest investment area. Both "Wide World of Sports" and "Stan Sport" are pillars of Nine’s reputation in premium sports production. To harness the full value of this content and increase efficiency, these teams will now operate under a unified structure led by Brent Williams. Amanda Laing will also lead a strategic review across Nine’s entire sports business to uncover new growth and efficiency opportunities related to advertising, subscriptions, media rights, and partnerships.
Two newly created executive roles are set to be filled: Chief Strategy Officer – Streaming and Broadcast, who will drive planning and execution across free and paid platforms, and Chief Marketing Officer – Streaming and Broadcast, responsible for leading an integrated team of marketing professionals across platforms. Recruitment for both roles will begin shortly.
Nine’s State Managing Directors in Queensland (Kylie Blucher), Western Australia (Clive Bingwa), and South Australia (Sean O’Brien) will now report to Amanda Laing, supporting the growth of Streaming and Broadcast operations in those markets.
In line with these organizational changes, three key executives will assume responsibility for the profit and loss performance and strategic development of Nine’s media assets. Hamish Turner becomes Executive Director of Channel 9, 9 multi-channels, and 9Now, overseeing these free-to-air and streaming platforms. Dan Taylor will take on the role of Executive Director of Stan, which represents a significant growth area for Nine. Tom Malone continues as Managing Director of Radio, a business unit that remains integral to Nine’s broader performance, delivering consistent revenue and EBITDA contributions.
Amanda Laing explained the strategy: “There is immense opportunity to drive growth for the Nine Group and strong momentum already underway. While Nine’s streaming and broadcast brands have enjoyed independent success, our strength lies in the power of the Nine Group and today’s changes are the first step in unlocking that potential. We’re lucky enough to have some of the industry’s top talent and I’m excited to leverage their experience across our streaming and broadcast brands," stated.
All changes take effect on 1 July 2025, with all newly appointed roles reporting directly to Amanda Laing.
