The Greek adaptation, "Na me les mama" (Call Me Mom), produced by Greece’s Filmiki and marking the first time Nippon TV’s script has been adapted in Greece, brings the compelling story to a new audience while maintaining the essence that made "Mother" a worldwide sensation. In addition to Alpha TV, "Mother" has been licensed to CJ E&M (South Korea), MF Yapim (Turkey), STB TV (Ukraine), Juvenile (Thailand), Radiant Pictures (China), Incognita (France), Atresmedia (Spain), Medyapim for MBC (Saudi Arabia), Green Show Productions (Mongolia), and ABS-CBN (Philippines). "Mother" continues to be the record holder of the most globally adapted Asian scripted format with these eleven adaptations.
Sally Yamamoto assured that the title will resonate with Greek audiences: “'Mother' is a story that has transcended cultures, and we are excited to see it resonate with viewers in Greece. Greece has a rich tradition of successfully adapting hit international series, from reality and competition formats to scripted dramas, and we are delighted that 'Mother' is joining this legacy of high-quality adaptations. This premiere marks another milestone in our mission to share high-quality Japanese scripted content with global audiences," noted.
Meanwhile Christos Kompos, highlighted the human side of the series: “'Mother' holds a very special place in our hearts. It’s one of these stories that we feel really honored to share with our audience. Full of emotions and captivating, it raises awareness around very tough and poignant social issues. Nippon TV’s team was by our side throughout the whole creative process of the local series and provided a solid basis for our creative team," expressed.
"Mother" is the story of a woman who responds to an abused girl's silent cries for help. The heroine of this drama is a woman in her mid-thirties who has apathetically lived her life without interest in romance, society or even her own future. Working as an elementary school teacher, she learns that one of her students is being abused at home. Although unable to comprehend her sudden impulse, she decides to kidnap the young abused girl to raise as her own. During her life on the run, she re-examines her past lifestyle and searches for her path in life.
Pivotal to this drama is the word “maternal.” The heroine, who had never awakened to her own maternal side, discovers this instinct deep within herself. This drama portrays how this unexpected discovery stirs the feelings of hesitation and conflict, which help her to mature as both a woman and as a person.
