ORF documentaries have been honored at the prestigious Golden Prague Festival and Nature Film Festival Green Screen. This year, the ORF/WDR co-production A Theater for a Symphony” not only secured a nomination but went on to win the Czech Television Award.

The international jury recognized the film for its compelling content and its innovative use of cutting-edge digital technologies to virtually reconstruct Vienna’s long-lost “Kärntnertortheater” – the stage of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony world premiere in 1824. The documentary offers today’s viewers an authentic and captivating glimpse into what that historic first performance may have sounded and looked like.

“A Theater for a Symphony” is a co-production by ORF and WDR, directed by Barbara Weissenbeck and distributed worldwide by ORF-Enterprise.

On the other hand, the documentary Lions of the Skeleton Coast” has received the Green Screen Award for Best Story, at the 19th International Nature Film Festival Green Screen.

Already recognized at the Jackson Wild Media Awards, a four-time winner at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards, and recently nominated for a News & Documentary Emmy®, the documentary ranks among the most celebrated nature films of recent years.

“Lions of the Skeleton Coast” follows three orphaned lion cubs in Namibia’s Skeleton Coast as they grow from unsteady cubs into skilled coastal hunters. Filmed over eight years by Will and Lianne Steenkamp alongside Dr. Philipp Stander, the documentary captures never-before-seen behaviors and showcases the lions’ resilience and adaptability.

A co-production by ORF, Into Nature Productions, Thirteen, WDR, and ARTE, “Lions of the Skeleton Coast”, distributed by ORF-Enterprise is a striking example of long-term dedication in wildlife filmmaking and a milestone achievement within the ORF’s acclaimed Universum strand.
