Prime Video announced the second season of the Italian original series “The Bad Guy,” starring Luigi Lo Cascio and Claudia Pandolfi, with Stefano Accorsi joining the cast for this new season. Season two will be available on Prime Video in Italy in 2025 and later on RAI, which will also broadcast the first season free-to-air. Fifth season will handle international sales of both seasons in all other territories. Returning cast members include Selene Caramazza, Giulia Maenza, and Antonio Catania. The shooting of season two took place on location in the regions of Lazio, Emilia Romagna, and Sicily, in Italy.

“Season two of ‘The Bad Guy’ starts at the same point at which we left our protagonists. And it follows them in their slow descent into the chasm in which good and evil, the good and the bad, mix to the point of appearing undistinguishable. The playful and ironic feeling of season one persists, but in our writing together, we decided to gradually veer it towards a more intimate, emotional, and tragic tone. If we were considering the score of a Requiem Mass, ‘The Bad Guy’ would be the ‘Lacrimosa,’” said Giuseppe G. Stasi and Giancarlo Fontana.

“We’re thrilled to bring ‘The Bad Guy’ back and see where this brilliant story goes in Season Two,” commented Nicole Morganti, head of Originals, Italy & Southern Europe, Prime Video. “The series has a great story, an extraordinary cast, and an incredibly talented creative and production team, and the genre-bending approach to the series is one I’m very excited about.”

“We are constantly looking for ways to experiment with our approach to distribution, and the collaboration between Prime Video, Indigo, Rai Cinema, and Fifth Season marks a step forward in our ongoing partnerships with the Italian TV and production industry. We can’t wait to share this new season with our audience after the warm reception earned by its ground-breaking storytelling on season one,” added Marco Azzani, Country Managing Director for Prime Video Italia.

“Season Two of ‘The Bad Guy’ is a significant production challenge for, among other things, the responsibility of living up to season one, which was so acclaimed by audiences and critics alike. We are enthusiastic about the creative work of our invaluable team of writers and the visual imagery that the directors are working on to refresh the story. The entire production effort aims to make the authors’ vision possible to give the series a particular and powerful identity, which we hope will surprise, disconcert, and entertain viewers just as it is doing every day to all those talents, technical and artistic departments, who are accompanying us on this amazing journey” said Nicola Giuliano, Indigo Film.

Jennifer Ebell, EVP of EMEA Sales and Acquisitions at Fifth Season, added: “‘The Bad Guy’ breaks new ground in the mafia genre – providing a fresh and unique concept as a fundamentally good character undergoes a transformation to become bad, in order to seek justice and revenge. This twisty, entertaining, and humorous series delivers an on-trend subject matter and a top-class cast, making it the best Italian show we’ve seen in years. ‘The Bad Guy’ is exactly what buyers are looking for right now, and under this new strategic collaboration with Amazon, we look forward to introducing this smash hit series to international audiences.”

Season one of “The Bad Guy” was acclaimed by audiences and critics alike and told the incredible story of Nino Scotellaro (Lo Cascio), an incorruptible Sicilian public prosecutor who, after being convicted of Mafia, decides to pull off a Machiavellian revenge plan, becoming the “bad guy” he has been unjustly turned into. Season two returns as a bridge between past and future, between the ghosts of regret and remorse and the desire for a new life no longer within his reach, in a story that mixes crime and dark comedy.

Season two of “The Bad Guy” is directed by Giuseppe G. Stasi and Giancarlo Fontana, created by Ludovica Rampoldi, Davide Serino, and Giuseppe G. Stasi, and written by Fortunata Apicella, Giacomo Bendotti, Giordana Mari, Ludovica Rampoldi, Davide Serino and Giuseppe G. Stasi. The new season is produced by Nicola Giuliano, Francesca Cima, Carlotta Calori, and Viola Prestieri at Indigo Film in a co-production with Amazon MGM Studios, in association with the global film and TV studio Fifth Season and in collaboration with Rai Cinema, which will broadcast an original Prime Video series on linear television for the first time.
