S4C and BBC Cymru Wales commission "Pren ar y Bryn" drama

The six-part dark comedy drama produced by Fiction Factory will be distributed by All3Media International and supported by the Welsh Government via Creative Wales.

S4C and BBC Cymru Wales have commissioned "Pren ar y Bryn" ("Tree on a Hill.") The dark new comedy drama will be broadcast on S4C, BBC One and iPlayer."This drama is one of six Creative Wales is supporting over the coming year that will air on BBC / S4C," Gerwyn Evans, Deputy Director of Creative Wales, said. "We’re delighted that by providing funding and support more and more dramas are being made in Wales, using our facilities, creating opportunities for crew and trainees and showcasing our stunning Welsh locations.”

"Pren ar y Bryn" is being produced by Fiction Factory, which forms part of the Tinopolis group in association with All3Media International and investment has come from Creative Wales. Filming for the project began on 13th February 2023. International distribution will be handled by All3Media International and the production is supported by the Welsh Government via Creative Wales. “I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to tell this big little story about change set and shot in the place I grew up at the edge of the Brecon Beacons in the Swansea Valley," Ed Thomas, writer and creator said. 

Written and created by Ed Thomas, the six part series has begun filming on location in Ystradgynlais on the River Tawe at the edge of the Brecon Beacons, where Ed Thomas grew up. Behind this new series are Cardiff-based Fiction Factory the production team responsible for the critically acclaimed crime drama "Hinterland" ("Y Gwyll.")

Featuring a Welsh cast, the title stars Rhodri Meilir as Clive Lewis and Nia Roberts as Margaret, with Richard Harrington, Hannah Daniel, Richard Lynch, Suzanne Packer, William Thomas, Rhodri Evan, Steffan Cennydd,  and Jacob Ifan also set to join.
