“Sisi” and “Simon Coleman” lead Beta’s summer success on Italian TV

Beta’s line-up of premium entertainment captivated Italian audiences this summer, achieving record-breaking ratings across multiple national broadcasters and airing successfully almost daily throughout the summer season.

"Sisi" season 4 and "Simon Coleman" season 2 triumphed as #1 and #2 shows respectively on primetime, significantly outperforming the competition, which included the comedy entertainment show "Max Working – Lavori in Corso" with Max Angioni, one of Italy’s most celebrated comedians. "Sisi," airing on Canale 5, won primetime with an average viewership of over 1.5 million and a market share of up to 16%, closely followed by the competitor "Simon Coleman" on RAI 1, drawing up to 1.3 million viewers and a market share of nearly 11%.

On RAI 2, the German crime movie cycle "Split Homicide" outperformed the long-running U.S. series "NCIS: New Orleans" and "The Mentalist" and consistently attracted a growing audience with up to 2.5 million viewers in total. Also airing in the afternoon slot of RAI 3 was the German series "Homicide Hills - Fresh Force" reaching an average audience of up to 400,000 viewers.

"Isabelle" claimed a primetime victory on RAI 1 this summer. The French crime drama outperformed the American series "Watson," attracting nearly 2 million viewers and a market share of almost 15% with the broadcast of episodes 1 and 2. The strong performance continued with episodes 3 and 4, maintaining steady viewership and reaching a total audience of over 3.5 million. Meanwhile, "Rocco Schiavone" re-ran with extraordinary and stable success, securing a loyal fanbase on RAI 2 with viewership figures of over a million viewers and a market share of up to 6.4%. Further Beta programs that aired to great success this summer in Italy are "Prisma," "Baltic Files," "Murder by the Lake," and "Barcelona Crime."

Firstly, "Sisi" (24x1h) is the true story made for a new generation: tomboy and Bavarian Princess Sisi falls in love with the Emperor of Austria. Since its first season, "Sisi" was the most watched series every year on streaming service RTL+ in Germany and secured exceptional linear ratings in Germany, France, Austria, and the Netherlands, among others. Produced by Story House Pictures, Beta Film has sold the coming-of-age story of the iconic Empress to more than 120 territories worldwide.

Also, "Simon Coleman" (9x1h) is a Parisian undercover cop, and a veritable lone wolf. But one day, he is thrown into a new role when he must take custody of the three children of his sister. Produced by France Télévisions, Épisode Productions, Be-Films - RTBF (télévision belge), the series broke records on his home turf on France 2 with more than 4.3 million viewers and a market share of up to 23.4%.

Murder is never just a simple affair: "Split Homicide" (16x2h) follows Branka, who stands up to corruption, willing to even risk her life doing so. When the worst actually happens, it will be up to her successor Stascha to prove her abilities in turn. Directed by Michael Kreindl, the movie cycle achieved excellent ratings in Germany, reaching an average viewership of almost 7 million and a market share of up to 26%. It is produced by Constantin Television for ARD Degeto.

Moreover, "Isabelle" (4x1h) is based on the true story of a woman suspected of murdering several of her husbands. The series is produced by Episode Productions and France Télévisions.

"Homicide Hills - Fresh Force" (19x1h) is the reboot of the witty crime series about an unlikely trio trying to solve bizarre crimes in a rural police department with their unorthodox approach. The series is produced by Claussen+Putz Filmproduktion for ARD Degeto.

Finally, "Rocco Schiavone" (48x1h) is based on the bestselling novels by Antonio Manzini. The series follows the titular irascible Roman deputy police chief as he carries on his duties in the provincial Aosta Valley. To try to escape his dark past, Rocco throws himself into his work and with his unerring flair investigates heinous crimes between his Alpine post and Italy’s capital. "Rocco Schiavone" is produced by RAI Fiction and Cross Productions in association with Beta Film.
