Studiocanal has sold three seasons of the funny and moving children’s animation series "Esther’s Notebooks" (Les Cahiers D’Esther) to Italian public broadcaster RAI. The sale was secured ahead of this year's Mipcom Junior.“We are delighted to see these entertaining animation series travel to free TV in Italy,” Beatriz Campos, SVP Global Sales and Production Financing at Studiocanal said. “ In their original print format Esther’s Notebooks are best-sellers and have already been translated into eight languages with more than one million copies sold to date."
The deal serves as a continuation of season one of Emmy Award-winning animation series "The Adventures of Paddington," as well as securing the second season of this animation franchise, known worldwide. "The Adventures of Paddington 1 and 2 are heart-warming animation series which take the lead from Michael Bond’s original books," Campos said. "While at the outset both series appear very different, they each deliver a unique take on life as seen through innocent and curious eyes and we are sure that they will have strong appeal to young viewers throughout Italy.”
"Esther’s Notebooks" is adapted from the acclaimed books by comic artist and film-maker Riad Sattouf, and looks at life today through Esther’s wide, ten-year-old eyes. Esther delivers an incisive and yet sympathetic take on the world around us, gently mocking our current society with her fresh, innocent and yet very frank observations about her family, friends and the people she meets every day. Created and written by Riad Sattouf and Mathias Varin, Esther’s Notebooks is a CANAL+, Folimage, Les Films du Futur and Les Compagnons du Cinema production for CANAL+.
The first series of "The Adventures of Paddington" received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback, travelling to every corner of the world, and won two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Preschool Animated Series and Outstanding Writing Team for a Preschool Animated Program in 2021. The heart-warming, popular children’s series is about being curious, being good to others and being part of a loving family. Each 11-minute episode, within the spirit of the highly successful Paddington movies with a third just announced, tells a brand-new story in an exciting new animated form. The series is written by Jon Foster and James Lamont and produced by Heyday Films, STUDIOCANAL, Copyrights Group through a collaboration of M6.
