The Creators Bridge has acquired the distribution rights for the documentary "Elis & Tom – It Had to Be You" from Rinoceronte Entretenimento. In partnership with the distributor O2 Play, the agency aims to expand the film’s reach in key international markets, ensuring that the legacy of this iconic bossa nova documentary continues to grow.
Released in 2023, the acclaimed documentary "Elis & Tom – It Had to Be You", produced by Rinoceronte Entretenimento, achieved a remarkable feat by becoming one of the most-watched documentaries in the Brazilian theatrical circuit in recent years. Beyond Brazil, the documentary has already been licensed in the United States, Japan, and Portugal.
"Elis & Tom – It Had to Be You" is directed by Roberto de Oliveira and Jom Tob Azulay and features rare footage from the recording sessions of the legendary album that brought together singer Elis Regina and composer Antonio Carlos Jobim (widely known as Tom Jobim). Filmed by producer Roberto de Oliveira during the album’s recording in Los Angeles, USA, in 1974, the documentary unveils never-before-seen behind-the-scenes material that had remained archived for decades. It captures the highs and lows of the creative process, revealing the tensions that nearly derailed the project.
Felipe Herz Boclin, CEO of The Creators Bridge praised the title: "Music, Bossa Nova, Tom Jobim, and Elis Regina are timeless treasures that embody Brazil’s rich cultural legacy at its finest on the global stage. The doc, 'Elis & Tom', is a true masterpiece, capturing both the magic and the drama behind what is undoubtedly one of the most iconic recordings in music history. We are thrilled to partner with O2 Play in bringing this extraordinary work of art to audiences worldwide," stated.
