Channel 4’s newest adventure series bringing young and old participants together on the trip of a lifetime has also brought young and older TV audiences together. The launch of the brand-new adventure series smashed the ratings with both 16-24s and over 65s. For both age groups, it outperformed Channel 4’s slot averages (share up 38% and 18% respectively).

The series is produced for Channel 4 by South Shore. Executive Producers are Melanie Leach, Andrew Mackenzie, and Louise Allen. The Series Producer is Jimmy Hunt, Line Producer is Lizzie Search, and the Senior Production Manager is Rodrigo Milheirao. The 5 x 60’ series is commissioned for Channel 4 by Genna Gibson, Commissioning Editor, Reality & Entertainment, with Steven Handley, Head of Reality & Entertainment.

The opening episode of the epic treasure hunt across Japan, which first broadcast on 7th October, consolidated with a 0–7 day big-screen audience of 1.3 million and was one of the most-watched new reality launches this year. It is Channel 4’s biggest 9pm reality debut since April 2023. The UK-originated reality competition has also arrived strongly on Channel 4 Streaming, already achieving over 30 million minutes viewed since launch.

Channel 4 achieved its highest-ever single day of streaming on 7th October, resetting a record it had smashed just a week earlier, with other titles including “Married at First Sight UK,” “The Great British Bake Off,” “24 Hours in Police Custody,” and “Hollyoaks” bringing 7.7 million views to the public service streamer.

“Worlds Apart” sees six young Brits who have never travelled alone being paired with pensioners who thought they’d never travel again in a treasure hunt around Japan. The pairs set off chasing clues and trying to overcome the generation gap to win a life-changing cash prize of £50,000. “Worlds Apart” bridges the UK’s age gap with record-breaking success — uniting viewers across the nation.
