Disney+ has greenlit Wedding Season, a UK-produced original romantic-comedy action series for the streamer’s Star label. “When we first read Oli’s brilliant scripts for ‘Wedding Season’ we laughed out loud… and we were desperate to find out what happened next,” Johanna Devereaux, Disney’s director of scripted content, EMEA, said. “It’s an addictive, genre-defying series packed with twists and turns.”
The eight-part series is being produced by Dancing Ledge Productions and Jax Media, and written and executive produced by Oliver Lyttelton. Chris Carey, Laurence Bowen and Toby Bruce will also exec produce for Dancing Ledge, while Lilly Burns, Brooke Posche and Tony Hernandez will do so for Jax Media. George Kane will direct.
In February, Disney+ hired two new execs in Spain and Germany to head up original productions and unveiled a slate of 10 new European commissions, as well as a commitment to 50 European productions by 2024. “Wedding Season” will mark the 15th European original for the streamer as it seeks to hit its target.
The series tells the story of a beautiful bride who is discovered on her wedding day surrounded by the bodies of her husband and all of his family, and nobody is entirely sure who is responsible.
