After experiencing success with its initial European launch, Disney+ will launch in another eight territories in Western and Northern Europe on 15th September. The streamer will make its debut in Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Belgium, and Luxembourg. “We have been thrilled with the performance of the service since our initial launch in November and we continue to expand into other markets,” CEO Bob Chapek said during Disney’s most recent quarterly earnings call. “In late March, as planned and despite COVID-19, we had an incredibly successful launch of Disney+ in Western Europe, followed by a highly successful launch in India.”

As per its pricing in the likes of The Netherlands and France, Disney+ will cost €6.99 per month or €69.99 for a year in Portugal, Belgium, Finland, Iceland, and Luxembourg. Meanwhile, Norwegian customers will pay NOK69 per month or NOK689 per year, the Swedish will pay SEK69 per month or SEK689 for the year, and those in Denmark will have access to the SVOD for DKK59 per month of DKK589 per year. It has withdrawn its free seven-day free trial period ahead of the upcoming release of “Hamilton” and “Frozen 2” on 3rd July.

The SVOD service made a large impact in the first few days of its European launch on 24 March 2020 in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria and Switzerland with as many as 5 million downloads across the seven new markets by 26 March according to research from AppAnnie. By 9 April, the direct-to-consumer service had racked up a total of 50 million paid subscriptions.

Disney+ features content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic, as well as exclusive original programming including feature-length films, series, documentaries, and short-form content made exclusively for the service. Its large library of iconic Disney-owned content along with the breakout original series “The Mandalorian,” has contributed to the service’s massive growth.
