Channel 5’s streaming service, My5, recorded its fastest-ever growth in 2024, with Barb TV Viewing Minutes (TVM) surging by 53% compared to 2023. This growth outpaced all other UK Public Service Broadcaster (PSB) streaming platforms, including BBC iPlayer (+24%), ITVX (+22%), and Channel 4 (+15%).
Key drivers of My5's success included the popularity of its original dramas like “All Creatures Great and Small,” “Blindspot,” “The Teacher,” and “Ellis.” Documentaries such as “My Wife, My Abuser” —the platform’s most-watched single title— non-scripted programming like “Phillip Schofield: Castaway,” and true crime series including “Cause of Death” also attracted significant audiences. Acquired shows like “Revenge” and “Home and Away” further boosted viewing figures.
Ben Frow, Channel 5’s Chief Content Officer, commented: “2024 was a huge year for My5 as our viewers really discovered the depth of content, particularly our Channel 5 dramas, that we have on the service. We know that audiences increasingly want to switch seamlessly between streaming and linear TV and that’s why in March we are relaunching both our services under the combined brand of 5 with a significantly greater range of programming on offer.”
The surge in My5's popularity comes as Channel 5 prepares to merge its linear and streaming services under the unified brand of “5” in March 2025. This relaunch will introduce an expanded library of content, including additional boxsets and programs from the wider Paramount family and other partners. Genres such as reality, drama, factual, true crime, and films will feature prominently, alongside kids’ and family programming from Milkshake! and Nickelodeon.
The upgraded 5 streaming service will also include new FAST channels, an enhanced user experience, and improved data-driven advertising opportunities, positioning it as a comprehensive destination for audiences across all platforms.
