Spirit Studios, the Channel 4-backed independent production company announced a partnership with distributor and channel owner Quintus Studios to expand its “Outsmarting” YouTube series into a long form linear TV series and podcast. Originally a 10x10’ series for Channel 4 titled “Outsmarting,” “Outsmarting Evil” (6x60’) is a gripping new series shot in a brand new format that tells the stories of ordinary people who managed to defy the odds and escape the clutches of dangerous, manipulative, and toxic individuals.

Quintus Studios has acquired the global linear distribution rights and digital rights for the “Outsmarting Evil” series which will play across its channels which include Free Documentary which has over 5 million subscribers on YouTube alone.

“Outsmarting Evil” provides insights from experts who analyze the behavior of these predators from a psychological perspective, offering valuable tips on how to protect yourself in dangerous situations, recognise red flags to avoid becoming a target, and understand the psychology of the assailant. The series explores a wide range of chilling stories, including serial killers, murderers, human traffickers, trolls and stalkers.

Each episode begins with the pivotal moment when the brave survivor turned the tables on their assailant. Through in-depth interviews, survivors recount their harrowing journeys, starting with the initial deception or capture. The series uncovers what happened during the ordeal, the escape to freedom, and the eventual moment of justice or retribution.

Spirit Studios and Quintus Studios recently partnered on another true crime project “Missing Presumed Dead” with A+E Networks EMEA.

"At Spirit our strategy is to exploit IP in as many ways as possible in order to create brands that can entertain different audiences on different platforms. Our ambition was always to tell these stories in a long form format and we originally shot the footage to achieve this. We’re delighted to partner once again with Quintus Studios on this exciting project,” said Matt Campion, Creative Director / co-founder of Spirit Studios.

“You have to be nimble in this current climate, so when the opportunity arose to produce a long-form version of Outsmarting, we acted quickly to make it happen. It’s a pleasure to be working with the Spirit Studios team again on another strong project that we’re confident will be another success story for Quintus,” concluded Adam Jacobs, Creative Director at Quintus Studios.
