GOLDEN GLOBES AWARDS NOMINEES ANNOUNCED: NETFLIX SCORES 35% OF ALL NOMINATIONS

The streamer’s “Mank” led the awards show with six nominations. The platform also scored 22 nominations in film and 20 for TV. Disney+ “The Mandalorian” and HBO Max's “The Flight Attendant” received their first Golden Globe nominations, while "The Crown" received six.

The 2021 Golden Globes Award nominees were announced at the nominations ceremony earlier this morning.Despite a stressed pandemic year, there is a comfort of sorts in embracing traditions, perhaps it is a hopeful sign that we will get out of this eventually,” Actor Gary Oldman said in a statement. “The Golden Globes are such a sign of both tradition and normal.”

Hosted by Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P. Henson, the nominations ceremony was delayed by two months amid the pandemic. David Fincher’s “Mank” and Netflix’s “The Crown” led the Golden Globe nominations, with Netflix scoring 22 nominations in the film categories and 20 on the TV side, amounting to 35% of all nominations.

Streaming services received most of the nominations as Disney+ “The Mandalorian” and HBO Max's “The Flight Attendant” both acquired their first Golden Globe nominations. “The Crown” landed six nominations including best series, drama, and acting nods for Olivia Colman and Josh O’Connor. The final season of “Schitt’s Creek” trailed with five nominations, while Netflix’s “Ozark" and “The Queen’s Gambit”  also added to the streamer’s totals.

Aaron Sorkin's courtroom drama "The Trial of the Chicago 7" scored five nominations total while four each went to Chloe Zhao's road movie "Nomadland," the Anthony Hopkins drama "The Father" and Carey Mulligan's revenge thriller "Promising Young Woman." All four will go against with "Mank" for best motion picture drama.

The winners will be revealed on 28th February, during which Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will return as hosts. In addition to the competitive categories, this year’s ceremony will also see Jane Fonda and Norman Lear receive lifetime achievement awards for their work in film and television.
