Conecta Fiction & Entertainment 2024: Globo looks for international coproductions

The Brazilian company has participated in two panels in the Toledo market where they expressed the desire to do more co-productions and find large players in Spain and Europe.

Globo is participating Conecta Fiction & Entertainment 2024 that is taking place in Toledo, Spain. On Wednesday 19, it has placed the panel “Pitch Commissioners”, where Pablo Ghiglione, Head of International Coproductions, spoke about what he expects from co-production partnerships, what kind of content Globo is looking for and his expectations for the event. Georgina González, VP Global Scripted Series of Universal International Studios (US), Leonardo Aranguibel, VP Head of Production Operations & Strategy of The Walt Disney Company (Latam), and Mariana Perez, VP Head of Development & Production of The Walt Disney Company (Latam), have also participated in the panel.

“We want to do more co-productions. We are focusing on looking for large players who are also interested in partnerships, co-financing projects that make sense for both parties. The idea is to look for models that allow us to reach new audiences, sharing risks and investments. Partnerships are important both to take Globo's content to the international market and to bring even more diversified productions to our exhibition windows in Brazil, such as Globoplay”, commented Pablo.

Alex Medeiros, Head of dramaturgy & documentaries of the Globoplay Originals, participated in the panel “Focus Brazil: Overview II' to talk about Globoplay's content and its commercial and cultural perspectives in Brazilian audiovisual, alongside three representatives from the independent market, the producers Glaz, Teleimage, and Ventre Studio.

When answering how to find content that stands out, Alex said: “The big challenge we all face is finding the balance between the knowledge you accumulate over the years and, on the other hand, not settling into your comfort zone. A balance between what you know works and how much risk you want to take.” Regarding trends that impact the market, Alex commented that the time between approval and the launch of a series is usually approximately two years. "In these times, trends change, which means you actually need to partner with creators who are thinking ahead".

Globo also promoted a breakfast with the presence of producers, channels and distributors from Europe and Latin America, with the aim of fostering the development of content and co-production partnerships.

Focused on the creation, development, production, financing, transmission, marketing, and commercialization of television content, Conecta Fiction selected Brazil and Portugal as the focus countries for the 2024 edition. Currently, the Portuguese language market covers more than 250 million speakers worldwide, placing both countries as fundamental allies for the production of global content.
