London TV Screenings 2023: ITV Studios confirms new content sales

Teh distributor has confirmed various drama, non-script and format content sales. Its content catalog will be presented at the ITV Studios Festivals, on Wednesday 1st March at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square.

ITV Studios has revealed details about its most recent drama, non-script and format content sales, and its slate of programs set to be presented to global buyers at the ITV Studios Festivals, scheduled to take place on Wednesday 1st March at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. The event forms part of the third annual London TV Screenings.

For its drama catalog, ITV has included the medical thriller from World Productions, "Malpractice," directed by BAFTA-nominated Philip Barantini and written by former NHS doctor Grace Ofori-Attah. Following a major co-production agreement for the US and Canada, "Malpractice" is set to stream on The Roku Channel as one of its flagship Roku Original drama series for 2023. Pumpkin Film in China, Seven Network in Australia and TVNZ in New Zealand have also acquired rights to the ITVX series, which tells the story of a damaged doctor caught up in a dangerous conspiracy.“We are thrilled to welcome the brilliantly written and flawlessly produced 'Malpractice' to the Roku Originals slate. ITV Studios and World Productions have an unparalleled track record of producing globally accessible shows, and we can’t wait to share this wonderful series with the millions of households reached by The Roku Channel," Lydia Antonini, Head of Creative Affairs at Roku, said.

"Nolly," the three-part drama from BAFTA-winning writer Russell T Davies and produced by Nicola Shindler’s Quay Street Productions and starring the Academy Award-nominated Helena Bonham-Carter will air in the US on Masterpiece on PBS, BBC First in Australia and PCCW in Hong Kong. These sales are in addition to the previously announced Pumpkin Film in China, Now TV in Hong Kong and TVNZ in New Zealand. ITV also secured deals for "Maternal," the six-part medical drama following three female doctors returning to post-pandemic frontline medicine after maternity leave, executive produced by BAFTA winner Patrick Spence for ITVX. The title has been sold to CBC Gem in Canada, Seven in Australia and TVNZ in New Zealand.

Also forming part of ITV's drama slate is "You & Me," the new contemporary love story produced by Happy Prince, directed by BAFTA-winner Tom Vaughan and executive produced by Russell T. Davies. The title has been acquired by Stan Australia and the previously announced TVNZ in New Zealand. Adapted from Kerstin Ekman’s international bestseller and from acclaimed producer Piv Bernth’s Apple Tree Productions, the gripping crime story Blackwater, has been picked by CBC Gem in Canada and will also broadcast on NPO and Viaplay in the Benelux region.

It's 2023 Non-Scripted catalog includes landmark wildlife series "A Year On Planet Earth" from Plimsoll Productions co-commissioned by ITV & ITVX, Fox Nation in the US and ARD in Germany and Tencent in China. The title has also been sold to CBC and CBC Gem in Canada, and MediaCorp in Singapore, Warner Bros. Discovery India, Seven in Australia, VMI (Virgin Media One) in Ireland, Viaplay in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Iceland, Poland and Baltics and the and the Nordic public broadcasters NRK, SVT, DR, YLE & RUV have the Free TV Window. Previous deals announced include Now TV in Hong Kong and PTS in Taiwan.

Also from Plimsoll Productions, "Mother Nature" has sold to Wowow in Japan, Warner Bros. Discovery in India, KBS in South Korea and MediaCorp in Singapore. Running with the Beest from Atlantic Productions, which documents the Great Wildebeest Migration, has been acquired by NHK in Japan, MediaCorp in Singapore and EBS (Educational Broadcasting System) in South Korea. Oxford Scientific Films’ feature length documentary "Murder in the Pacific" has sold to TVNZ in New Zealand, which has also picked up The Murder Of Logan Mwangi from MultiStory Media and Monster Mansion: Evil Behind Bars from Good TV. Monster Mansion: Evil Behind Bars will also broadcast on Network Seven in Australia. The new three-part series following Alan Carr’s journey to discover more about his favourite childhood author, "Alan Carr's Adventures" with Agatha Christie from Boom Cymru, has been newly acquired in Japan by AXN Mystery, in addition to previously announced sales in New Zealand (TVNZ), Australia (Seven) and Taiwan (PTS).

The formats ITV will present this year include the dating format, "My Mom Your Dad," which continues with the announcement of the second season commission by NINE in Australia and the reveal of New Zealand as the latest country to head into production with Warner Bros. International Television Production producing for ThreeNow and Three. The second chance dating show now has ten local commissions including UK, Sweden and USA. The Voice family continues to reach new milestones with The Voice Kids reaching new territories including Italy and Uruguay.Among ITV Studios’ brand new formats are MultiStory Media and ITV America’s new music competition "Project Icon" with Jason Derulo for BBC Three and MultiStory Media’s "Scared of the Dark" for Channel 4, along with Twofour’s brand-new dating show, hosted by singer, TV star and LGBTQ+ ally Danni Minogue, "I Kissed A Boy."

ITV's general 2023 slate will also include drama titles, such as "Fifteen Love," "North Shore," and comedic-drama "Significant Other." New non-scripted titles on the slate include a two-part series marking the 30th anniversary of the controversial "Waco Siege", telling the story of Koresh’s Branch Davidian cult" Waco: Untold Stories," a three-part series on the fatal bombing of Greenpeace’s flagship "Rainbow Warrior Murder in the Pacific" by OSF for BBC Two, "The Mayfair Hotel Megabuild" byThe Garden for BBC Two, and "The Year From Space" byAtlantic Productions for Channel 4. “It's plain to see with The Roku Channel's exciting new co-production for Malpractice, and the flurry of sales being made across all genres, how the incredible breadth of talent we are working with at ITV Studios is resonating with buyers and viewers alike worldwide," Ruth Berry, MD, Global Distribution and Global Entertainment at ITV Studios, said.
