"Murder on the Inca Trail"
German distributor Global Screen announced the new titles on its slate for the inaugural MIPLondon. The lineup includes new drama "Murder on the Inca Trail", and the second seasons of hit series "Recipes for Love and Murder" and "The Palace". Let's briefly review the slate.
True crime mini series "Murder on the Inca Trail" (Mord auf dem Inka-Pfad, 4x45‘/2x90‘) leads the new lineup. Based on a true story, this gripping international crime thriller spans continents, from the remote heights of the Inca trail to the bustling streets of Munich and New York. Munich native Ursula Glück is shot and killed in her sleep during a dream honeymoon on the Inca Trail. Her husband, Jona Kepler, the sole witness, claims they were attacked by two men. Back in Munich, homicide detectives investigate, but suspicion falls on Kepler. With no motive or evidence, the truth remains elusive. The series is produced by Westside Filmproduktion GmbH for ARD Degeto / BR.
In season 2 of "The Palace" (Der Palast, 6x45‘), we arrive in 1990 Berlin, where ballet director Regina Feldmann and a trio of up-and-coming young dancers face personal and professional turmoil as they navigate love, fears and ambitions while battling to save the theater during a chaotic period of world history. Initially intended to be a mini series, The Palace, directed by Academy-Award-nominated Uli Edel (The Baader Meinhof Complex), had such an overwhelming audience response that it led to the decision to commission a second season. The series is produced by MOOVIE GmbH and Constantin Film for ZDF.
The English-language series "Recipes for Love and Murder" (8x50‘) also returns for another season. The murder mystery series based on the novel by bestselling South African author Sally Andrew picks up only a few weeks after the end of Season 1. As a large fire engulfs the small town of Eden, a fateful chain of events is triggered, and Tannie Maria, Jessie and Khaya get dragged into a multiple murder investigation that unearths the small town’s darkest secrets. Maria Doyle Kennedy (Outlander, Orphan Black, Kin) stars. The series is produced by Both Worlds in association with M-Net and Acorn TV.
Also on the Global Screen MIPLondon slate is season 4 of "Mountain Murders" (Watzmann ermittelt, 48x50‘), the breakout German TV hit with over 3 million views to date. In season 4, we are reunited with Chief Inspector Benedikt Beissl, who has been running his police station in Berchtesgaden pretty much on his own for many years. All of a sudden, the top brass decides to assign him a new colleague. Mountain Murders is produced by Luckybird Pictures / ARD for Das Erste, BR. Meanwhile, family entertainment live-action series "Finest Fairytales" (Sechs auf einen Streich, 56x60‘) returns with 2 new titles, "A Princess Betrayed" and "The Magic Flute", from producer ARD Degeto.
Ulrike Schröder, Head of TV Operations at Global Screen GmbH, described the slate: "From high-stakes crime in 'Murder on the Inca Trail' to the drama and intrigue of 'The Palace' and the sleuthing of 'Recipes for Love and Murder,' our MIPLondon slate has something for everyone. We’re especially excited to showcase new seasons of hit series, as well as brand new compelling titles to our international partners and continue delivering standout content to global audiences," noted.
FInally, Thierry Cassuto, founder of Both Worlds, producer of "Recipes for Love and Murder 2", commented on what the season is about: "In Season 2, stakes are raised and the mysteries grow more complex, but Tannie Maria's recipe for solving them remains deceptively simple: a dash of intuition, a generous portion of persistence, and plenty of heart. There's something universal about small-town stories, especially when they're seasoned with South African Karoo flavours. This season reveals the shadows beneath our sun-baked landscapes, with consequences that should keep viewers on the edge of their seats," expressed.
