MIPCOM 2023: KO Distribution to offer new acquired series

The company is introducing the new comedy "Squall" and new dramas; "FEM" and "Detox" along with "Extreme Couples Challenge" reality series.

KO Distribution will attend this year’s MIPCOM to present international buyers with three recently acquired series, which have been added to their expanding distribution catalogue. “In addition to these, we recently announced our new unscripted/reality/documentary series ‘Extreme Couples Challenge’ being introduced at this year’s market, as well," noted Mia Desroches, Vice-President of Global Distribution. “Our diverse slate of shows combined with these important (third party) acquisitions gives us a robust selection of programs to introduce to this year’s content buyers and we are excited to bring them to the market.”

The new comedy "Squall" (Season 1: 12x30’) from producer A Média, and broadcast on ICI Radio-Canada, tells the story of the life of a star veterinarian, who hosts hit TV shows and owns a veterinary hospital along with a pet product empire, is turned upside down after an incident with a dog on live TV causes a scandal. "Squall" is a hilarious new comedy format sure to appeal to audiences featuring adorable animals and colorful characters who are as kind as they are zany.

The 2023 drama, "FEM" (Season 1: 10x30') from producer Ugo Media, with Broadcaster Unis TV, features Zav, a 17-year-old aspiring hyper-pop singer, dreams of breaking into the music industry. Zav has long been questioning his gender identity, but inwardly, as he fears the repercussions of this questioning on his relationships with his family and his small-town community. The series is directed by Marianne Farley who was nominated for the Academy Award for Live Action Short Film for her short film "Marguerite".

And, In the short-form drama series category, "Detox" (Season 1: 6x10-14’), from Producer Ugo Media features the story of Zach, a 17-year-old who enters a rehab after his best friend’s overdose. He discovers a group of teenagers with various addictions and past issues. Even though all physical contact is prohibited, he is dangerously attracted to Léa. This mutual attraction gives place to a modern-day Romeo and Juliet story where everything that should push them apart brings them closer together. This new short form series touches on tough subjects in a light and hopeful way. Broadcaster is Unis TV.

In "Extreme Couples Challenge", the participating couples will go through a wilderness survival adventure to test the weakest points of their relationship dynamics, handle any conflicts that arise and try to become better versions of themselves together. The series is produced by Lustitia Productions and is broadcasted on Canal Vie (Bell).
