MIPCOM 2023: Nippon TV launches four new titles

Currently celebrating its 70th Anniversary, Nippon TV will head to this year’s MIPCOM with a new scripted format, "The Greatest Teacher" as well as two new unscripted formats "Suspects on the Set" and "5 Friends, 5 Favours!" and the new anime title "The Apothecary Diaries."

“Starting last year, Nippon TV has strengthened its production and distribution capabilities, aiming for further success in the international market. We are actively pursuing partnerships to produce original programs, aiming for series adaptation in international markets, whether scripted or unscripted. To achieve these goals, those programs will first be produced and broadcast in Japan as a pilot version for international markets,” commented Mikiko Nishiyama, Executive Vice President of Global Business at Nippon TV “As we celebrate our 70th anniversary this year, Nippon TV is operating at full throttle as we head into MIPCOM with these four new titles.”

From the creators of the hit series and internationally adapted "Mr. Hiiragi’s Homeroom", "The Greatest Teacher" (60 min. eps.) is currently airing with rave reviews and record ratings on AVOD and SVOD and follows the story of a high school teacher who is mysteriously pushed off the school balcony after graduation ceremony. The last thing she sees is the sleeve of someone’s school uniform, but the next minute she suddenly finds herself rebooted back one year ago in her homeroom class on the first day of school---she has time lapsed. In front of her students smiling and chatting as if nothing has occurred. With 30 suspects and only a fleeting glimpse of a uniform sleeve, the rebooted and determined teacher embarks on a relentless journey to unveil the truth and make a difference this time, keeping viewers captivated in this gripping suspense drama.

"Suspects on the Set" (60 min. eps.) is a mystery murder gameshow with a unique mix of scripted crime drama elements. Set in a murder site, actors are summoned to play a role in a mystery drama, each given basic information about the character they play. Their mission is to investigate on the spot by improvising their characters, while one of them is playing the role of a murderer, trying to hide their real identity.

"5 Friends, 5 Favours!" (60 min. eps.) is a studio gameshow where friends battle it out to win for their celebrity friends. Two celebrities each summon five friends, who will compete in a challenge across five different categories using their specialties and skill sets. The keys to unlocking victory lie in who they know and their rich social connections.

"The Apothecary Diaries" (30 min. eps.) is based on a well-known period mystery series that has sold over 24 million copies to date. Located at the center of the continent is a superpower nation, where one young woman lives with the emperor’s wives in the inner palace. Formerly a pharmacist, obsessed with poisons and medicines who was working at the red-light district, has become a lowly servant. She learns that the emperor’s children are short-lived, and two are getting weaker by the day from illnesses. Out of curiosity, she investigates why. Not one to believe in curses, she is surprised by her findings.
