South International Series Festival, which will celebrate its third edition from September 12 to 17 in Cádiz, announced the official jury responsible for evaluating the works competing in its Fiction and Non-Fiction sections, as well as its new “City of Cádiz” award. The line-up features prominent national and international industry figures such as Michael Murphy, Patricia Vico, Myar Craig-Brown, and Claire Willats, alongside well-known local personalities including Javier Miranda, Beatriz Aragón, and Aroa Plaza, among others.
The Fiction Section jury will feature an international and diverse panel composed of actress Patricia Vico and include Myar Craig-Brown, Creative Director at Banijay UK’s Double Dutch; Michael Murphy, producer and founder of Rockabill Media; Mariano Baselga, screenwriter and Head of Fiction Development; and Carmen Serrano, Head of Europa Creativa Desk MEDIA Andalucía. Together, they bring solid expertise in the creation, development, production, and financing of audiovisual content, reinforcing the festival’s international scope. Meanwhile, the Non-Fiction Section jury will be composed of Clara Ruipérez de Azcárate, Director of Legal Strategy for Original Content at Telefónica, alongside Claire Willats, former Commissioning Executive for Netflix and Universal International Studios, and Javier Miranda, Director of the Alcances Festival, thus fostering synergies with other cultural events in the city.
Both juries will be in charge of granting the festival’s official awards: in the Official Fiction Section, three prizes will be awarded – Best Fiction Series, Best Fiction Series Screenplay, and Best Ensemble Cast, recognizing both narrative quality and the collective work of the cast. In Non-Fiction, the Best Non-Fiction Series and the Special Jury Prize will be awarded. In addition, the public will once again play a leading role with two audience-voted awards – Audience Award for Best Fiction Series and Audience Award for Best Non-Fiction Series. These will be joined by the Andalucía South Boost Award, aimed at recognizing Andalusian projects in development.
Finally, South strengthens its ties with the city through the City of Cádiz Award, granted by a citizens’ jury composed of representatives of local groups: Santiago Moreno, researcher, cultural manager, and historian, alongside; Ester Trigo Ibáñez, General Director for Culture at the University of Cádiz; Beatriz Aragón, cleaner, writer, and Carnival author; Manuel Tirado, architect and drawing professor; and Aroa Plaza Blanco, documentarian and editing technician at the Casa del Carnaval. With a popular and critical perspective, this jury will recognize works that stand out for their artistic and social values, or for their ability to foster dialogue between cultures and generations – another way to actively integrate Cádiz into the heart of the festival.
