Telefilm Canada has committed to offering support to 64 film festivals scheduled to run between 1 July, 2022, and 31 March, 2023. Funding for the event will be covered by the Promotion Program’s General Admission Stream and Open Access Stream (Reopening Fund), valued at a sum of $725,000.
The company received a total of 66 eligible applications in the first intake of both streams. Out of those, a total of 40 film festivals receives funding under the General Access Stream and 24 film festivals under the Open Access Stream. Eligible applicants that did not receive funding from the General Admission Stream were automatically considered for funding support in the Open Access Stream.
The Promotion Program consists of three distinct streams: the General Admission Stream, the Limited Edition Stream and the Industry Initiatives Stream.
Since last year, the program has also taken on the task of distributing the Reopening Fund of $10 million over two years to support the recovery and enhancement of film festivals across the country for in-person and hybrid activities. The distribution takes place through the General Admission Stream, the Limited Edition Stream and a newly established Open Access Stream for festivals that do not receive support through the other two streams.
