The importance of expansion into new areas has always been The Kitchen’s MO. The abundance of comic conventions worldwide, from Romania to South Africa, Finland to Florida, are nearing the 1,000 mark and The Kitchen’s interest in the comic/anime/manga venues continues to grow.
“The Kitchen has been actively providing voice talent for these growing genres for years and the 'Cons' have been extremely beneficial to us,” explained Brad Strickland, Director of Production.
Kalel Moodie, The Kitchen’s Assistant Production Manager in Miami, has taken the “Cons” events very seriously. “I love planning and participating in panels that promote the genre,” he added. “Most importantly, I love bringing in new talent, assisting them with a career path that they otherwise would have never been presented as an opportunity. While a voiceover career may not be for everyone, I do believe that we have been able to open up doors for many over the years and I will continue to advocate for our participation in these events. Anime fans, as everyone knows, are one of the most involved groups. They follow everything related to the genre and The Kitchen has been a part of this very dedicated audience for a very long time,” Kalel concluded.
The next local Florida “con”, known as Mizucon, will be held in Miami on May 24-26, 2025. Kalel will lead a dubbing panel at the event, entitled “Dubbing for Beginners” to introduce attendees to the possibilities of what a career in voice acting could offer.
