“The Maid’s Daughters”
As part of MIPCOM 2025 in Cannes, the prestigious consultancy The WIT has included “The Maid’s Daughters” in its exclusive list of the most outstanding international dramas. Starring Verónica Sánchez, Carlota Baró, and Alain Hernández, “The Maid’s Daughters” will premiere exclusively on atresplayer on November 30 and will soon air in prime time on Antena 3.
This recognition is the second award received by Atresmedia at this year’s MIPCOM, following the prize won by “Ángela” as Best Fiction Format at the C21 International Format Awards 2025. Atresmedia has once again arrived in Cannes, reaffirming its leadership as a driving force in the Spanish audiovisual industry and its growing international presence.
On this occasion, “The Maid’s Daughters”, an adaptation of the acclaimed novel by Sonsoles Ónega, winner of the 2023 Premio Planeta and a true literary phenomenon of the year, has been recognized by the prestigious consultancy The WIT as one of the most outstanding productions worldwide. Inspired by the literary phenomenon that captivated thousands of readers, the series will premiere exclusively on atresplayer on November 30, and will later air in prime time on Antena 3.
The series, consisting of eight 50-minute episodes, is a Buendía Estudios Canarias production in collaboration with Atresmedia. It is directed by Menna Fité and Alejo Flah, with Sonia Martínez as executive producer and Montse García as Atresmedia’s Head of Fiction. The script is written by Irene Rodríguez, Alba Lucío, and Tatiana Rodríguez, and Lucía Alonso-Allende serves as co-executive producer.
The inclusion of “The Maid’s Daughters” in The WIT’s select list represents a new mark of international recognition for Atresmedia’s fiction, further strengthening its prestige and leadership in the global audiovisual market. The announcement was made this Wednesday during The Wit Fresh TV Fiction Conference, held as part of MIPCOM 2025 in Cannes, one of the most important events in the industry.
Starring Verónica Sánchez, Carlota Baró, and Alain Hernández, “The Maid’s Daughters” is a drama set between Galicia and Cuba in the early 20th century, offering a portrayal of the era through the powerful family saga of the Valdés. It is a story marked by forbidden love, betrayal, class struggle, and secrets, set against a context where women begin to challenge the norms that confine their destinies.
The main cast is rounded out by Martina Cariddi, Judith Fernández, Álex Villazán, Tomy Aguilera, Álex Gadea, Xoel Fernández, Fede Pérez, Alicia Armenteros, Iolanda Muíños, Roque Ruiz, Fran Nortes, Adrián Ríos, Carlos Villarino, Camila Bossa, Alba Loureiro, and Alejandro Vergara, among others.
Over the years, The WIT has repeatedly recognized the quality and creative talent of Atresmedia’s productions. Last year, the consultancy also highlighted “Sueños de libertad”, Spain’s leading TV series, among the most outstanding dramas on the global scene, later also selecting “Santuario” and “Mariliendre.” In previous years, The WIT had already acknowledged several of Atresmedia’s flagship titles, such as “Las Noches de Tefía” in 2023, and “El tiempo entre costuras,” the series that marked a milestone in Spanish drama, including it in the prestigious “Fresh TV Fiction” list in 2013. That same year, it also selected “El Internado” as one of the best series of ‘the past 50 years.’ Other recognized titles include “Mar de plástico” in 2015, “El Incidente” and “Pulsaciones” in 2016, as well as “La Valla” and “Veneno” in 2020.
“The Maid’s Daughters” takes place in Galicia, 1900. Two girls are born at the Espíritu Santo manor: Clara and Catalina. The first is the daughter of the maid, Renata, while the second is the child of the Valdés, Don Gustavo and Doña Inés. An unexpected revenge will shake the lives of these girls and everyone around them, forcing Doña Inés to survive heartbreak and the pain of abandonment. She will also face power struggles to make her true daughter the heir to an empire, in a time when women were not allowed to own their own lives.
Among the most prominent titles that Atresmedia is presenting at this new edition of MIPCOM is the Antena 3 series “Sueños de libertad,” the most-watched fiction on Spanish television and the undisputed leader every afternoon, and “¿A qué estás esperando?” which has already been renewed for a second season following its exclusive premiere on atresplayer. Also making a significant presence is “The Maid’s Daughters,” the highly anticipated adaptation of Sonsoles Ónega’s literary phenomenon and winner of the 2023 Premio Planeta, which premieres on November 30 on atresplayer before airing on Antena 3.
At the same time, three original atresplayer fiction series will also play a key role at MIPCOM 2025. On one hand, “La Ruta Vol. 2. Ibiza,” the second season of the acclaimed atresplayer original series, which became one of the breakout dramas of recent years and will arrive on the platform on October 26; “Mariliendre,” atresplayer’s first original musical series; and “33 Días,” the first series created by renowned investigative journalist Carles Porta, which will premiere on atresplayer in 2026.
