WAPA receives 20 Nominations at the 2022 Suncoast Emmy Awards

The nominations include 13 for NotiCentro’s news team and 7 for news analysis show "Cuarto Poder." The Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards ceremony will be held on 10th December in Orlando, Florida.

WAPA Televisión received 20 nominations for the 46th annual Suncoast Emmy Awards. The prestigious awards are presented by the Suncoast chapter of the National Academy of Arts and Sciences (NATAS) representing the television industry in Florida; areas in Louisiana, Alabama, and Georgia; and Puerto Rico. WAPA’s nominations include 13 for NotiCentro’s news team and 7 for news analysis show "Cuarto Poder," accruing more nominations than any other station in Puerto Rico. The Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards ceremony will be held on 10th December in Orlando, Florida.

After last year’s nomination to the International Emmy Awards for the documentary "COVID- 19: Adaptarnos o Morir" in the Non-English Language U.S. Primetime Program category, NotiCentro’s intrepid news team keeps providing top-notch news coverage of the critical events that affect Puerto Ricans on the island and on the U.S. mainland, as well as producing premium investigative content. In a year packed with political tensions, fiscal controversy, and natural disasters, the NotiCentro team has gone above and beyond to provide exceptional reporting and in-depth investigations that viewers in the diaspora may also watch through WAPA Televisión’s cable arm, WAPA América.

The nominations for NotiCentro include the following: In the News Special category, "Yo soy Artemis: Regresamos a la Luna" (“I am Artemis: Return to the Moon”), "Resumen 2021" (“Year-In-Review 2021”) o Dentro de la Resaca: Bandera Roja (“Inside the Undertown: Red Flag”), and "Viviendo con los Huracanes" (“Living with Hurricanes”) made the cut, while the coverage category included "Yo soy Artemis: Ruta al Lanzamiento" (“I am Artemis: Launch Path”). The Team Coverage category includes "Bienvenida Jasmine," (“Welcome Jasmine”) the Investigative category includes "La Empresa Detrás del Punto" (“The Enterprise Behind the Drug Sites”). The Crime News category includes "Mujeres al Mando de las Carreteras" (“Women in Charge of the Highways”), and "¿Asesinato o Legítima Defensa? El Estremecedor Caso de Shirley Vera Barreto" (“Murder or Self-Defense? The Shocking Case of Shirley Vera Barreto”).

In the Diversity/Equity/Inclusion News category | Single Shift was "Retos de la Comunidad Sorda en Huracán María" (“The Deaf Community’s Challenges
During Hurricane María”), "Historias de la Central" (“Stories from the Sugar Mills”) for the Historic/Cultural News category, "Historias de San Juan: 500 Años" (“San Juan Stories: 500 Years”), as well as "Resumen 2021 – Feminicidios" (“Year-In-Review 2021 – Femicides”).

Still in its first year on the air, "Cuarto Poder," the weekly primetime investigative and news analysis show led by attorney, analyst, and journalist Jay Fonseca, received the following nominations: In the Crime category | Long Form Content was "Humo Fatal 1 & 2 (“Fatal Smoke 1 & 2”). In the Diversity/Equity/Inclusion category | Short Form Content is "El Mundo en Silencio" (“Silent World”). "Amargo Destino" and"¿Quiénes nos atienden?" made the cut for the Health/Medical category | Long Form Content category. "Madre es la que…" (“A Mother is…”) for Human Interest | Long Form Content In the Politics/Government | Short Form Content category is "¿Y la Casa, Pa’ Cuando?," (“When Will You Get the House?”) and selected for the Social Concerns category | Long Form Content is "Estado de Coma" (“Coma State”)
