THE ITALIAN FILM COMMISSIONS, IN A CRUCIAL MOMENT FOR THE AUDIOVISUAL INDUSTRY

Cristina Priarone, President of the Association details the current finance help to the audiovisual sector in the country, she talks about the partnership with Netflix and gives her best insight for the future of the industry.

The Italian Film Commissions (IFC) is the association that groups 19 regional Films Commissions and it’s a benchmark for national and international productions, investors, authors, professional operators and institutions operating in the cinema and audiovisual sector. “Our main goal is to support all the Film Commissions chapters in Italy and to help them in the development of their role,” said Cristina Priarone, President of the Italian Film Commissions in exclusive to Señal News.

In Italy, the regions are very different one from each other, in a few kilometers the language changes as well as the landscape and the climate. “it’s very important to respect all these regional differences but although to find the right way to promote our entire country,” affirmed.

To achieve that goal, IFC started a research of all the tools and the opportunities that every region has been creating in order to support their producers, their crew in this Covid-19 context. “We choose to have an overall view regarding the available tools for the sector in terms of financing,” explained the executive.

Another initiative of the Italian Film Commission to support the audiovisual sector was the partnership with Netflix.“They decided to give one million euros to the crew which had lost their jobs at the beginning of the virus emergency,” indicated Priarone.

The President of the IFC also expressed her desire to find other partners to continue supporting the audiovisual sector in Italy. “Maybe we have some opportunities and I hope to reach other money to help people because in the audiovisual sector is not always easy to find a job, is not a stable sector, when their loose a job opportunity they have to wait to get another one,”, explained

About the future of the industry, Priarone feels positive. “The key point is to find the right opportunity in terms of health, this is absolutely what is needed but while we wait for that, we need to find new ways. At the beginning we will manage the shooting with new rules but I think we can do something, for example there are some ideas for new projects, specially for TV using drones or using new technologies and focusing on new ways of working,” she indicated.

“As a Film Commission we can just keep helping as much as we can and keep on developing relationships, opportunities, sharing information and helping people in feeling not lost. Also as a Film Commission,  I consider that our duty is to push the Government and push the power to help our sector because you have to fight a little bit to get the right attention,” she concluded.
