Streaming platforms with over 1 million Australian subscribers must now spend either 10% of their local programming expenditure or 7.5% of their Australian revenue on domestic content — failure to comply could trigger fines up to ten times their annual Australian revenue.
Platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime, and others will have to commit at least 10 per cent of their local expenditure, or 7.5 per cent of their revenue, to Australian content.
Overall $2.29 billion was spent across 162 drama screen productions that commenced production or post production in Australia in 2021/22 compared to $1.94 billion spent across 163 productions in 2020/21.
