Canadian public service CBC revealed its 2024-25 programming slate for CBC TV and CBC Gem, featuring over 40 new and returning original series from Canadian creators, producers and storytellers, and 14 CBC News local FAST channels. “Our wide-ranging slate of original Canadian programming for the coming year embodies our promise to reflect more people, places and perspectives from across the country in new ways,” said Barbara Williams, Executive Vice-President, CBC. “As Canada's storyteller, we are continuing to step up and stand apart from other media choices by serving audiences with more local coverage and stories from their own communities, across both news and entertainment."

CBC NEWS
Expanding its local news offering, in the coming year, CBC News will launch 14 new free 24/7 ad-supported streaming (FAST) channels. Channels CBC NEWS BC and CBC NEWS Toronto are now live and available on CBC Gem, the CBC News App and the Roku Channel, as well as Samsung TV Plus and additional platforms in the coming weeks, and within a year, they will be joined by an additional 12 FAST channels.

On the other hand, CBC News continues to bring audiences the latest news from across Canada and around the world, in addition to an award-winning slate of current affairs, investigative and primetime and weekend news programs available to broadcast and stream, live and on-demand, across multiple CBC platforms. Premier investigative series "The Fifth Estate" celebrates its 50th anniversary this fall with a special project to address the troubling decline in local journalism across Canada. Another current affairs programs scheduled to air are "Marketplace"; "The National"; "Power & Politics"; "Canada Tonight"; "About That With Andrew Chang" and "Rosemary Barton Live."

This upcoming broadcast and streaming year, CBC and CBC Gem will continue to be the home for fresh original Canadian comedy with three new series spanning communities and perspectives across the country, including Nunavut-set "North of North" (8x30, Red Marrow Media and Northwood Entertainment) following a young Inuk mother as she tries to build a new future for herself in her small town; "Small Achievable Goals" (10x30, Sphere Media), an honest and hilarious look at menopause and middle age; and "Snotty Nose Rez Kids," (8x30, Snotty Nose Productions, Grand Scheme and Reality Distortion Field in association with Redcloud Studios) inspired by the chaotic journey of the Indigenous hip-hop duo. The series join long-running news satire comedy "This Hour Has 22 Minutes", including a U.S. election special, and authentic family comedy "Son of A Critch", which enters the ‘90s as Mark embarks on new adventures in high school.
