The comedy enchanted the Ukrainian people and led Zelensky to win the presidential elections in 2019. “Servant of the People” is the story of a humble high school teacher that is nominated by his students for the presidency of the country. With the help of the students, the teacher surprisingly wins the elections and establishes a government based on principles of honesty and service. In the series, the character defies corruption and faces problems with simplicity and unusual clarity. This utopic idea of how a president should be made Zelensky the President of Ukraine, winning by more than 73% of the votes. Many of the particularities of the character have been reflected in Zelensky and in his way of governing. The comedy also shows the normal and dynamic life in Ukraine, a country that right now faces a conflict with Russia.
To help raise awareness of the children and families impacted by the conflict in Ukraine, the Spanish-language television network will be directing viewers to UNICEF, where audiences can find resources on how to help in the humanitarian effort.
