PBS PROMOTES SYLVIA BUGG TO CHIEF OF PROGRAMMING

Bugg will begin her duties on 10th February, 2021. In her new role, she will oversee the General Audience Programming editorial team and report to the division's Chief Programming Executive.

PBS announced its decision to appoint Sylvia Bugg as Vice President of Programming. She will start her new position on 10th February of next year. “We’re excited to welcome Sylvia back to PBS. Her extensive background in strategic, mission-based content, paired with her knowledge of the public media system, will be invaluable as we continue to provide programming that reflects our diverse audience and the local communities we serve,” Perry Simon, PBS Chief Programming Executive and General Manager for General Audience Programming, said.

Buggs' new role will consist of the oversight of the General Audience Programming editorial team. She will report to Simon. She will lead strategy across all genres, including news, public affairs, documentaries, history, science, natural history, and arts programs. 

Most recently, Bugg served as Vice President of Diversity and TV Content at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, where she provided strategic leadership and put forth efforts to advance diversity across public media through the collaboration and support of content creators, distributors, and partnering organizations.

Before joining CPB, Bugg was a Director of General Audience Programming at PBS, where she contributed to the development of the drama portfolio, performance, and cultural programs. She also held several programming roles in history and public affairs at PBS from 1993-1999. Bugg spent 12 years in programming, operations, and production for several Discovery Communications networks.The executive holds an MBA from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, an MA in Journalism from American University in Washington, D.C., and a BA in Communications from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA.
