The Hungarian TV channel Paprika, together with its German counterpart RTL are seeking original series ideas from Europe, announcing the sixth edition of Hypewriter, their TV series competition and pitch forum. This year, Hypewriter will offer a prize of 10,000 EUR for the best concept, which will be turned into a professionally produced pilot episode or a “proof of concept” short film that may evolve into a complete TV series.
Eight finalists will have the opportunity to pitch their stories to an international jury of prominent film and media industry representatives in Budapest, Hungary. Travel and hotel expenses for all finalists will be covered. The companies are ooking for scripted TV series projects with the potential for multiple seasons, formatted as 4 to 8 episodes per season, with each episode running 40-60 minutes. The concept should be original, align with commercial TV trends in Central and Eastern Europe, be suitable for regional production budgets, and preferably set in a contemporary setting within a popular genre (crime, drama, comedy, dramedy).
A pre-selection team will choose 15 projects from the submissions. These projects will undergo a two-round online workshop to prepare for the pitch, including face-to-face consultations and short interviews. From these, 8 to 10 projects will be invited to the Hypewriter Pitching Forum. RTL's experts will participate as advisors and jury members during this final selection phase.
Finalists will pitch their ideas in Budapest, with Paprika Studios covering travel and accommodation. Each pitch will include an 8-minute presentation in English, followed by a 7-minute Q&A session. The day before the pitch event, a professional coaching workshop will be held to help finalists refine their presentations. The Hypewriter Forum is scheduled as a live event on 8 October, 2024, featuring two online preparatory workshops led by accomplished script doctors and screenwriters, followed by a professional coaching workshop in Budapest.
