ABACUS MEDIA SELLS CBC’S “TRICKSTER” TO THE CW AND AMC NETWORKS

AMC Networks' Sundance Now and Shudder acquired the drama. The series is set to debut in the US on 12th January 2021 after the completion of The CW’s broadcast run.

Abacus Media Rights unveiled several North American deals in the works for the Canadian drama “Trickster,” from Cardinal producers Sienna Films, including the CBC series' sell to The CW Network and AMC Networks’ Sundance Now and Shudder. “With its focus on diversity and a unique form of storytelling “Trickster” will have a strong appeal to global viewers particularly the elusive younger adult audience," Jonathan Ford, Managing Director, AMR, said. "We are delighted that North American audiences will have the opportunity to access the series on multiple platforms.” 

The “Trickster” debut in the US is scheduled for 12 January 2021 at 9PM on the CW Network followed by the SVOD release on AMC’s Sundance Now and Shudder, set to air after the completion of The CW’s broadcast run.  From Canadian producers Sienna Films and Streel Films, and already greenlit for a second season by CBC, the series has also been sold to Sky, UK (SyFy); NITV, and SBS On Demand in Australia and Globoplay, Brazil. 

The 60-minute episodes of the six-art series is based on the best-selling trilogy “Son of a Trickster” written by Eden Robinson premiered worldwide at TIFF in September.  A CBC original series, “Trickster” is created by Streel Films’ Michelle Latimer “Rise, Nuuca” with Tony Elliott from “Orphan Black,” alongside Executive Producers Sphere Media company Sienna Films’ (Cardinal) Jennifer Kawaja and Julia Sereny.  All six episodes are directed by Michelle Latimer. 

The supernatural series stars Joel Oulette as Jared, an indigenous teen who does it all, even sell drugs, to supporrt his dysfunctional family. Maggie. Jared copes with an undiagnosed mental illness on his own and wtahcing over his unemployed father when suddenly, his life is turned upside down. The show's cast includes Kalani Queypo, Anna Lambe, Joel Thomas Hynes, Gail Maurice, and Georgina Lightning.
