Global film and TV studio Fifth Season has secured a raft of global sales across seasons one and two of "Wild Cards," a crime-solving procedural from Blink49 Studios, Front Street Pictures, and Piller/Segan in association with The CW for commissioning broadcaster CBC in Canada. The distributor closed deals for seasons one and two with Talpa TV (Netherlands), STAR Life (Portugal), Mediaset España (Spain), TV JOJ (Slovakia), Warner TV (France, Belgium, Switzerland, Africa), NBCUniversal International Networks & Direct-to-Consumer (Africa), Now TV (Hong Kong), WOWOW INC. (Japan), Mediacorp TV (Singapore), Nine Network (Australia), Warner Bros. Discovery (New Zealand), and yes and Hot (Israel).
Further deals have been inked by Fifth Season for season one with Play Media (Belgium), ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE Germany (Germany), The Walt Disney Company Bulgaria, Disney Middle East and Quebecor Content (French Canada). Prentiss Fraser, President of Television Distribution at Fifth Season, said: “Primetime procedurals have always been in style and current programming trends are demanding a slightly lighter, blue sky flare – and ‘Wild Cards’ absolutely delivers in this space. The casting is fantastic, the stories are fun and the execution is exactly what programmers and audiences are looking for.”
Starring Vanessa Morgan (“Riverdale”), Giacomo Gianniotti (“Grey’s Anatomy”), and Jason Priestley (“Beverly Hills 90210”, “Private Eyes”). According to Nielsen, Wild Cards’ first season was the network’s best new series in 2024 in total audience viewing in Canada and was renewed for a second season in May 2024. From Blink49 Studios, Front Street Pictures and Piller/Segan in association with The CW for commissioning broadcaster CBC in Canada, the show is created by Michael Konyves. Executive producers include Konyves, pilot director James Genn, Shawn Piller, Lloyd Segan, and writers Alexandra Zarowny and James Thorpe. "Wild Cards" is produced by Charles Cooper and Virginia Rankin. The series is overseen by Carolyn Newman, Tashi Bieler and Alix Steerman on behalf of Blink49 Studios. Global distribution is handled by Fifth Season.
"Wild Cards" follows a by-the-book, sardonic cop, Cole Ellis (Gianniotti), and a spirited, clever con woman, Max Mitchell (Morgan), who each use their unique skills to solve crimes. For Ellis, that means hard-boiled police work; for Max, it means accents, disguises, and schemes. Season one’s cliffhanger found Ellis about to arrest Max for her heist of a 33 million dollar jewel, but a bombshell revelation from Max sidelines his feelings of betrayal; she’s learned the identity of his brother’s murderer. Season two raises the stakes in their cases to solve and their feelings for each other.
The series is part of Fifth Season’s curated slate of premium procedurals, which also includes Blink49 Studios, Front Street Pictures, and Sisters Troubetzkoy Productions’ Sight Unseen, focusing on a vision-impaired former homicide detective, "Saint-Pierre" from Hawco Productions and starring James Purefoy, Allan Hawco and Josephine Jobert, which follows an exiled inspector and his local police officer partner in Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, and The Good Ship Murder, following a former police detective-turned headline singer on a luxury Mediterranean cruise ship who investigates a murder in every port.
