ABC Commercial announced the acquisition of the fabulous drama series "Ladies in Black" by UKTV, part of BBC Studios, for its streaming service 'U' in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Produced by Bunya Productions and inspired by Madeleine St John’s bestselling novel, "Ladies in Black" is a visually rich drama set in 1960s Sydney.

Following the lives of a group of department store employees navigating love, ambition, and identity during a time of sweeping social change, the series has captivated audiences with its warmth, wit, and impeccable style. The sale to UKTV marks a significant international milestone for the series and continues to demonstrate the global appeal of premium Australian storytelling. The acquisition builds on ABC Commercial’s sales momentum for "Ladies in Black", following successful deals with Now TV in Hong Kong, YLE in Finland, and Proximus Media House in Belgium.

Karen Quinn, Manager: Content Sales at ABC Commercial, praised the product: "We're absolutely thrilled to see 'Ladies in Black' picked up by UKTV for audiences in the UK and Ireland. The series has already struck a chord with international viewers thanks to performances by the leading female actors; Debi Mazar, Miranda Otto and Jessica De Gouw, its compelling female-driven narratives, striking visual aesthetic, and lush, era-evoking soundtrack. With its authentic celebration of women’s voices and vibrant production values, 'Ladies in Black' is proving to be a standout drama that resonates deeply with global audiences," commented.

Meanwhile, Melanie Rumani, Global Head of Acquisitions, UKTV and BBC Studios, highlighted its storytelling: "I’m delighted to be introducing 'Ladies in Black' to UK audiences on our streaming service, "U". This captivating period drama from ABC Commercial gives a compelling glimpse into the lives of a group of women navigating the transformative early 1960s and is exactly the calibre of high-quality and distinct drama that we want our viewers to keep coming back to "U" for," expressed.
