A+E Networks Greenlights the second season of "Top Dog" on RTL

The Big Fish Entertainment production is returning to Germany following a successful run last year, as well as A+E's original debut in the U.S. The first, six-episode season of Top Dog Germany received 1.7 million total viewers.

A+E Networks 's Global Content Sales division recently settled a broadcasting deal with RTL in Germany for the second season of "Top Dog." "We’re excited to partner with RTL on a second season, and look forward to the continued international success of Top Dog," said Robyn Hurd, VP of Content Sales, EMEA at A+E Networks.

The competition format created by Big Fish Entertainment first aired in the U.S. on A+E Networks’ A&E channel as "America’s Top Dog," followed by a successful run on RTL last year. “We are so happy that German audiences love this thrilling, feel-good series as much as we do,” Hurd continued. “A+E Networks has a history of success creating regionally replicable formats that transcend cultures and borders, and Top Dog has proven itself as a prime time family entertainment show with fun and heart that celebrates everything that makes dogs so special and beloved across the globe."

 Created by Big Fish Entertainment, Top Dog first aired in the U.S. on A+E Networks’ A&E channel as America’s Top Dog. It returned for a third season on A&E in September, hosted by veteran studio and sports broadcaster Curt Menefee, following critical and ratings success. The first, six-episode season of Top Dog Germany averaged 1.7 million total viewers, with a 12.2% share with adults 14-49.

The second series will consist of seven episodes, each two-hours long, including a celebrity special. It showcases  dogs and their owners compete nose-to-nose on a supersized canine obstacle course Teams made up of the most competitive dogs in the country, as well as their dedicated owners, are tested on their speed, agility, and teamwork by completing a series of fun challenges against the clock.
