Apple TV+ adds Ricky Martin to its next show: “Mrs. American Pie”. According to website Deadline, the singer and Grammy winner will join Kristen Wiig, Alison Janney and Laura Dern in this female-led comedy. The 10-parter is a period piece based on the novel by Juliet McDaniel.
The series was developed by Dern, who will serve as executive producer, and her producing partner Jayme Lemons via their Jaywalker Pictures banner. Abe Sylvia, who is behind Jessica Chastain’s upcoming “George & Tammy” series, will write, exec produce and showrun the series. Taylor and John Norris serve as executive producers under their Wyolah Entertainment banner.
Kristen Wiig is leading the story as Maxine Simmons, a woman attempting to secure her seat at America’s most exclusive table: Palm Beach high society. Meanwhile, Martin will star as Robert. “Breaking News In Yuba County’s” Tate Taylor is directing.
The singer was last seen playing Antonio D’Amico in Ryan Murphy’s FX drama The Assassination of Gianni Versace, part of the American Crime story anthology. Martin won an Emmy nomination for his role.
