Big Bad Boo has announced the launch of the digital storybook of its new property, "Galapagos X". The storybook serves as an origin story for Team Galapagos X, showing readers how the team was formed. The digital storybook is accompanied by a virtual reality trip using Google Expeditions. Through this free app, kids can take a virtual trip to the Galapagos Islands, more specifically to the home of one of the characters from the storybook, Bobbi, the blue-footed Booby bird. Galapagos X follows a team of highly skilled climate-change advocates who use earth’s natural resources such as water, wind, sun and plant power to take on global eco-emergencies with high flying humor. Their goal: opening minds, making change, and keeping the planet healthy and fun-filled.
In the newly launched storybook, Oshie, Rae, Zephyr, and Orchid will race against the clock to save the kidnapped Bobbi and return her safely to her natural habitat— the Galapagos Islands. Along the way, the team encounters their arch-nemesis, Doc Crock, who is holding Bobbi captive in her latest cash-grabbing scheme. In conjunction with the storybook, kids can also can continue immersing themselves in the Galapagos X world by visiting Bobbi’s habitat—virtually that is.
In this partnership with the popular classroom app Google Expeditions, Big Bad Boo has developed one of the first-ever animated landscapes for children to visit. The setting showcases the unique ecosystem of the Galapagos Islands and includes facts about blue-footed Booby birds like Bobbi. Users can access Galapagos X in the over two million classrooms in North America that already use Google Expeditions, as well as on the property’s website, http://galapagosxshow.com/.
The production of both the digital storybook and Google Expedition was supported by CreativeBC, through its Interactive Fund, an initiative that aims to increase the production of high-quality interactive digital media content in British Columbia. This is the first phase of development for Galapagos X. Big Bad Boo is set to produce the first two 11-minute episodes of the broadcast series later this year, in partnership with the Canadian Media Fund and Shaw Rocket Fund. In addition, Big Bad Boo just announced that the property was selected as part of the pitch event at the M:Brane Forum in Malmo, Sweden, slated for March 10-12, 2020.
