Electric Entertainment has announced a significant new distribution agreement with Australia's Foxtel Group to bring its globally popular "The Librarians" franchise to Australian audiences. Under the exclusive deal, Foxtel Group’s streaming platform Binge, as well as its traditional subscription TV service, will host both the original "The Librarians" series and the new spinoff "The Librarians: The Next Chapter." The news was jointly announced by Nolan Pielak, SVP of International Distribution & Co-Production at Electric Entertainment, and Fleur Fahey, Director of Content Acquisitions at Foxtel Group, on the opening day of Mipcom 2025 in Cannes.
The agreement covers all 42 one-hour episodes of the original series, which starred Emmy Award-winning actor Noah Wyle, along with Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Harlan Kim, and John Larroquette. The new installment, "The Librarians: The Next Chapter," includes 24 one-hour episodes and introduces a new cast led by Callum McGowan, Jessica Green, Olivia Morris, and Bluey Robinson. Christian Kane also returns in a guest role.
“The Librarians franchise delivers the kind of fantasy content our audiences love to watch,” said Fleur Fahey. “It combines adventure, science fiction, comedy, and action in a way that is both entertaining and thought-provoking. The Librarians adds to our extensive content offering, fueled by an exceptional library of the biggest hits, beloved franchises and fresh new shows.”
Nolan Pielak emphasized the long-term strategy behind the partnership, stating, “Electric Entertainment’s brand is built on creating TV franchises that resonate with broad audiences. The Librarians is a prime example, and through our partnership with Binge and Foxtel, we’re excited to bring this family-friendly franchise back to viewers across Australia.”
"The Librarians" is based on the hit made-for-TV movie franchise "The Librarian" and follows a team of custodians of mystical treasures, led by Wyle’s character Flynn Carsen. The spinoff, "The Librarians: The Next Chapter," picks up with a time-traveling Librarian from the past who accidentally unleashes magic across Europe and must form a new team to restore balance.
The deal underscores Foxtel Group’s ongoing strategy to strengthen its content portfolio with globally recognizable IPs. Foxtel, now a DAZN Company, operates streaming services Binge and Kayo Sports in addition to its traditional subscription business. The group also includes Fox Sports, Foxtel Media, and has long-standing partnerships with major content providers.
For Electric Entertainment, this move reflects its continued global expansion of marquee properties. Led by Dean Devlin, Electric’s portfolio includes hits like "Leverage," "The Ark," and "Almost Paradise." In addition to its production arm, the company operates ElectricNOW, a FAST channel and streaming app now available on over 38 platforms.
This deal marks a significant step for both companies in leveraging beloved franchises across international markets and speaks to the enduring appeal of premium, serialized adventure content in a global streaming landscape.
