Globo announced that the second season of the series "Aruanas" has already started its recordings in the great São Paulo. Created and written by Estela Renner and Marcos Nisti with the final writing of Carolina Kotscho and the artistic direction of André Felipe Binder, also director of 'Secret Truths', the series won an International Emmy for the Best Telenovela in 2016.
In the new episodes, with no premiere date defined, the activists of the NGO Aruana – who in season one fought against environmental crimes of mining companies in the Amazon – take on a new challenge: to investigate the impacts of the oil industry, also in a fictional city just like on the first season. A fictional work freely inspired by true events, ‘Aruanas’ proposes a global discussion on urgent issues.
The series is an original production by Globo exclusively for Globoplay, in a co-production with Maria Farinha Filmes, and was globally launched in 2019 on the direct-to-consumer platform aruanas.tv, reaching 150 countries and in 11 languages. It has been recently licensed for OTT platforms in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
