France’s Canal+ has acquired HBO Europe’s first Spanish original drama, “Patria”. The show will premiere in HBO Europe’s 21 territories on September 27, while it will be released on the same day in the United States on HBO and HBO Max.
"Patria" takes place over three decades in an Euskadi (Basque Country) threatened by the terrorist group ETA, through the eyes of two families divided because of the separatist conflict. The life of Bittori (Elena Irureta) and her family completely changes the day ETA murders her husband, Txato (José Ramón Soroiz), at the door of her house. With broken relations with the family of her friend Miren (Ane Gabarain), whose son militates on the terrorist side, everyone will have to deal with grief and moral contradictions while life goes its own way.
The series was created and written by Aitor Gabilondo, based on the hit novel of the same name by Fernando Aramburu. Executive producers are Miguel Salvat, Steve Matthews and Antony Root of HBO Europe. “Patria” has been produced by Alea Media for HBO Europe, with the participation of HBO Latin America.
