Studiocanal, Canal+, CPB films and Media Musketeers proudly announced the official selection and World Premiere of the TV series "A Prophet" at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival 2025. This new take is based on the iconic BAFTA, Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix, nine César-winning, and Oscar-nominated Jacques Audiard film (released by Studiocanal in the UK).

The series, directed by Enrico Maria Artale ("El Paraiso," "Django 2022," "Romulus"), has been developed by the original team, including creators and writers Abdel Raouf Dafri ("Mesrine," "Braquo") and Nicolas Peufaillit ("The Returns") as well as producer Marco Cherqui ("Savages") and in agreement with the producers of the original film, Why Not Productions and Page 114. The 8-part series was shot in France (Marseille) and Italy (Puglia), with a franco-italian team including director of photography Ferran Paredes (Gomorra), and features original music by Para One.

Director Enrico Maria Artale comments: “I am truly delighted to be heading back to Venice, for the first time with a series, that is somehow the outcome of a very much personal creative endeavour. The show offers a different yet very cinematic approach to Jacques Audiard’s masterpiece, a real touchstone for me since my early days at film school. There could be no better occasion to finally meet the audience, and we feel particularly honored and thrilled that all the episodes will be screened in the Festival.”

A visceral, raw and high-stakes portrayal of life in a brutal French prison where Malik, a young African immigrant, must try to survive after being incarcerated for drug smuggling. Alone and vulnerable, he meets Massoud, a powerful and shady businessman who offers him protection in exchange for Malik’s obedience. But Malik soon realises that he is just a pawn in Massoud’s game, and that the only way to survive will be to take power for himself.

The series stars Sami Bouajila ("Days of Glory," "A Son"), Ouassini Embarek ("Athena," "The Eddy"), Salim Kechiouche ("Ganglands," "Ourika"), Matthieu Lucci ("Oussekine," "Vultures"), Naïlia Harzoune ("Haven of grace," "Convition"), Faued Nabba ("The Stronghold," "All The Way Up"), Hugo Dillon ("AKA," "The Sisters Brothers"), Rachid Guellaz ("All The Way Up," "Hunting Ground"), Guilaine Londez  ("Benedetta," "Family Business") and Moussa Maaskri ("Stillwater," "Dark Hearts"). For his first role, Mamadou Sidibé is portraying Malik El Djebenna, the “prophet”.

This Canal+ Original Creation is produced by Marco Cherqui for CPB Films and Sebastien Janin for Media Musketeers Studio, co-produced by UGC Images, Entourage Series (a subsidiary of Entourage Ventures), Savon Noir, Staging GmbH, MMBV and Camera Lucida, with the participation of Canal+ and Studiocanal.

The series is executive produced by Fabio Conversi for Bottega Films and Nicola Giuliano for Indigo Films.
